@BreeNewsome Gentle correction: The CD's you're referring to were only for limited time trials of internet service from AOL mostly, but a couple other companies did it as well. The discs weren't "the internet", they just gave you access to the internet via an internet service provider.

The @Candlewood Suites at the Richmond (VA) Airport has internet service that is WORSE than AOL’s dial-up service of the late 1990s.

@aklingus One of the more common ways households got internet service was to use discs sent through the actual mail by AOL (you know, the defunct instant messaging company) in order to get a free trial.
