Twitter always reminds me of an open forum AOL chat room. What I’m saying is, my expectations were never very high to begin with.

@duty2warn I read that right behind the Time Warner purchase by AOL in 2000, Musk's purchase of Twitter was the worst financial decision of any person or company in US history. Could this be why everyone is freaking out? Twitter is reportedly worth 1/3 of the 44B paid. That's gotta hurt!

@SnowWrite @oneunderscore__ I think they’re going to have a problem w/the separate serve things. It’s really confusing, the app is glitchy (like you follow, it unfollows, you have to follow again), the servers seem to be really slow sometimes (feels like AOL waiting), etc. They need to staff up.

@AirlineFlyer Twitter may implode but it would be because Musk's changes made the platform too much a hassle to use or because a better platform came along to displace it (leaving Musk holding a 40b pile of goo and displacing the AOL/TW merger as the worst business decision in tech history)

@djrothkopf There has been an odd stability to the internet lately which is ahistorical. MySpace, Geocities, AOL, Netscape all were great powerhouses. So it's not weird that Twitter declines and a new power fills the void. Or Musk cuts his losses and a Google, Microsoft, or Amazon buys it.

What I do have a problem with is cis people going "please don't call me my old AOL handle that's my deadname". No it's not.

@jaimeyap But you are presented with a 'pick your email provider' decision starting out: Gmail, Microsoft, etc Yes, the centralization of big providers helps out a lot, but things weren't so bad in the 90s and 00s when people were on AOL, Netcom, and large ISPs, except for the spam issue.
