Phone service was barely working where I was in Queens, and it wasn't working at all in Manhattan. My best friend's boyfriend was at work in Midtown. He found me on AOL Instant Messenger at one point and asked me to try to make a phone call on his boss's behalf.

@sumguypookie @JessicaMulein AOL was outrageously expensive. Once I got on the internet, I never looked back. We had the DOS version of AOL on our 286 for a while.

@AOLSupportHelp hi stuck in a loop trying to log in. My neighbour is 80yo and can’t get into his mails. Trying to login and it keeps asking us if we are a robot and sending a verification code to an account we can’t access. Not sure how to get a round this problem. Can you help??

Just heard “remember AOL dial-up” and cringing at remembering the god-awful sound of trying to get online and the indefinite waiting.

I will never forget 20 years ago today. At 17 I had earmed 35 hours of free AOL discs but after 10 hours my dupe emails addresses stopped working. I spent 6 and a half hours on hold to no avail. I often wonder if I might have met a wife that day in altTeensChat__koRn__ room.
