@clauclauclaudia @variableaus AOL chat rooms were the **** back in the day. You don't know, you weren't there.

@FPWellman OG’s made fun of AOL users back when it was new (it was never cool). They’d already been trolling BBS for years. I agree with engineers I worked with in the 90s. Nerds F’d up inventing the gui. Before that you had to know what you were doing… the Internet was made for/by nerds.

@truther_dare you couldn’t keep the same login name? i did not remember. but tbf i got numerous TOS violations due to my behavior in chat rooms so i had a lot of different screen names lol i never did get “nasboat” suspended and used it on AOL and later AIM from 1997 on though

@adamengst @trumanboyes I would read the issues of TidBITS in setext format and was a beta tester for AOL.

@gocards1 @stevesilberman In college I worked in the cancellation department for AOL, for the people who received those disks, far and away the worst thing I've ever done for money and that includes digging ditches and cleaning toilets.

@variableaus I remember the first time getting an aol disk, while in college, and dialing up…I can remember thinking “this net **** is for nerds & pederasts” & I tossed it out the window. Lmao. It took FOREVER & I hated talking on the phone much less a chat room.

@deviantollam There was Win2.1. and Win3.0. AFAIK, there weren't any winsock drivers (meaning no modem support) until Win3.1 But the AOL bit? That makes me think you were upgrading to Win3.1.1 which was the most popular Windows before 95.

  • FrankSassi
    Frank 'KrazY' Sassi (@FrankSassi) reported

@_ayures @deviantollam Just as a service. AOL Instant Messenger(AIM) was almost required as chat / IM software for a good chunk of time though and it was glorious

@SurfBelle2 @dmparm People are terrible. She should be ashamed cropping out fans who were generous enough to share their pic with us after we haven’t seen AOL for months. I recognize that name as the person who tagged someone in a Tweet who wasn’t originally tagged by the original poster. So rude.

@charlieputh sure complains about breakups and heartbreak a lot for a guy who is literally never ever photographed with a woman/date/love interest. Where's he courting these women? An AOL chat room, like hey a/s/l?
