@serendipitidoda yahoo started as a search engine if I recall. For some reason my email box over there never really was used. But yet I have gmail. I suspect Yahoo still has more value than AOL.

@MorningBrew Perhaps VZ should be on a short-list of worst acquirers of all time. But VZ-AOL deal is by no means worst. I think AOL acquiring Time Warner in Jan 2000 takes the cake. AOL took a $99 BILLION writedown in 2002!

Verizon, the master of bad acquisition? -They bought AOL and Yahoo for $9 billion and now they selling at $5 billion. -Verizon sold Tumblr for $3.1M in 2019 after buying it (indirectly through Yahoo! acquisition) for $1.1B in 2013 -Bought Huffpost and sold for less than 50%

@neednewshorts There was less noise on the wire. I miss the simplistic times where stupid people were corralled to AOL, and the decent/intelligent individuals were free to roam without restriction and play glorious games together.

@grckix @Alsboringtweets That is definitely false. Most AOL users never adapted to new technology and know next to nothing about tech in general. Thats why people are surprised to still see AOL email addresses
