@xosugarbunny How could you turn down such an opportunity from an AOL email address??

  • tahdigh Tahdigh (@tahdigh) reported

@elonmusk you ever use AOL back in the day? If you broke their Terms of Service (TOS) you were booted off (kind of like a time out) and given a warning. 3 violations your account got terminated. Suspension doesn’t have to be permanent. And why no monetary penalty for breaking the rules?

@nolawroundhere @Kent_in_Utah @justinamash The man who fought the troll, and failed. Zeran v. AOL - Section 230 "Lawsuits seeking to hold a service liable for its exercise of a publisher's traditional editorial functions – such as deciding whether to publish, withdraw, postpone or alter content – are barred"

Dear @worldsofzzt, There should be a way to look up a creator's contact information on your site so you can apologize for being a complete ******* to them on AOL in the 90s. Sincerely, Aric M. Sorry Evan Darrow

  • indo_crypt Phaedra (@indo_crypt) reported

@CAMallory2 Yes, was on aol too, long before the 1st bar. My first modem was something like 400 baud which meant it could theoretically transfer about 50 bytes a second though never came close to that :-)

  • Falcon__3 C🔋ri⚡(Chris) (@Falcon__3) reported

@TeslaTruckClub I was doing dial up BBS in the 80s and sierra online in the late 80s early 90s. I don't think we had AOL. We had some dialup service.

@strxwmxn @DudeBroDook That's like saying that the web is stupid because you can't build an AOL on it (BTW, I did hear this argument at the time), and AOL will of course always be more successful because it is not a bunch of different hard to use websites (it still is that).

  • MathiasDexFrost Mathias Dexter-Frost (@MathiasDexFrost) reported

@elonmusk Elon, when in the history of the internet has there ever been civil debate? You ever been in an AOL chatroom or a Usenet forum? Or an old website messageboard? Read any comment section on a divisive issue on any website or social media? Tell me you aren’t so naïve.

  • JESRtheelder JESR (@JESRtheelder) reported

@nronharris @SteveWonderbelt @BadEconTakes I'm constantly astonished by the number of people who haven't heard "if it's free, you're not the customer, you're the product" which I believe I first heard on AOL after they dropped their subscription/billing mode.
