The internet sucks. facebook goes down and it's like the whole internet goes down. AOL dreamed of being a one stop shop internet and we all hated that **** in the 90s. But here we are again with the internet basically being only a few sites. We need to break up monopolybook.

@ViktorBunin @compoundfinance Code as law is something slightly different I’d argue, like how small biases might lead to big unintended consequences due to code being law. AOL banning ”breast” as a word meant that the American Breast Cancer Society could not discuss its issues on AOL. Example from @lessig

I remember the first time I went into an AOL chat room I thought I had died and gone to heaven. A whole ******* world solely based on written words had opened up to me, and **** yeah I danced with glee in it.

@eliomen Yes, this. The tech solutions never delivered, in many cases because UX was an afterthought. I think about people fleeing AOL and landing in the internet. What's the analogous experience here?
