Least likely: Sure, AOL fought. But they lost. Most likely: No packaged internet portal gaming service ended up doing well in the long run. All of them failed and the open model of the internet won.

AOL Customer Support blocking my access to my AOL account which has not happened to me in 25+ years. This is the result of my real 1st name ROSARIUS - too Latin, too Hispanic for AOL... I should have been Bob??

@misantroopje @CarshenahJ For me, people couldn't get through with phone calls when I was online. There were times my cousin would hop on AOL messenger and tell me to get ******** off the internet so he can call me lol

22+ years ago or so we arrested someone during online role play and sent them to wait in an AOL online chat room called RP Jail and we just now remembered we never did go check on them. Hope they’re doing ok.

Ah the joys of getting my archive terabyte drive up and running again. I have copies of some of my old web pages in there, including 101 Uses for an AOL CD (which in the 90's and early 00's was a problem).
