  @brockpierson That modem is too new. It doesn't have any microphones. Go back to the source with an acoustic coupler modem. Of course, you're going to have a little trouble getting a working telephone handset and analog phone line. At least the AoL CDs will be easy to find.

  @AntiEVidiots When EVs were niche, driving one was like being part of a community with a shared secret. Similar to being on the internet in the early 1990s, before the AOL hordes turned up with their poor netiquette.

  If you ever find yourself scrolling X and feeling like there’s too much happening and you’re falling behind on __________ thing, zoom out and realize by even being here and a part of the conversation you’re already light years ahead of 99% of the population w/ respect to the AI renaissance we’re currently living through. We’re still so early. It’s like the days when AOL used to mail you a CD ROM to onboard you onto dial up internet - we’re there. Spending the weekend with old friends in Austin, none of whom are in tech/SaaS or marketing. They’re doctors, actors/producers, teachers, civil engineers, carpenters, etc…and most of what we talk about on this app is totally alien to them. Which is totally fine. I’m hanging with the $20/mo Claude plan crowd. Their X feed is completely different. While I get a crazy amount of knowledge from this site it comes with decent bit of anxiety as well. There’s a shitload of noise to find the actual signal. That’s the apparent trade off — a sense of impending doom and feeling like if I don’t immediately test this platform/load this skill/build this workflow/try this model, etc…in exchange for what a never ending stream of knowledge from some genuinely brilliant people.

  @MurrayHillGuy1 This guy (me) dating history: - Dated co-worker at grocery store in college, married her after a year, divorced after 9 years. 2 beautiful daughters (who are now 33 & 31). - Dated a former co-worker briefly. - Dated a girl that IM'ed me on AOL Instant messenger, married her after 3 years, divorced after 18 years. 2 beautiful daughters (who are now 21 & 14). - Dated a younger woman (25) on a dating website for a year, bought her a ring but never proposed. Only broken heart of my life (at 50). - A few short relationships from dating apps but nothing longer than 1-2 months. - Long distance relationship with a younger woman I met on IG (we had a mutual). Lasted 4 years but recently fizzled. Back to Square 1!

  @_tinatruth Steve Bartlett explained financial bubbles in one minute. The AOL–Time Warner story is a powerful reminder that HIGH VALUATION IS NOT THE SAME AS REAL VALUE. It reminded me of something I wrote on August 17 on my post 👇 A GREAT ASSET doesn’t automatically make a GREAT INVESTMENT. Pay too much, and your returns can suffer. Allocate too much capital, and one mistake can damage your entire portfolio. That’s why I believe good investing isn’t just about choosing the right asset. It’s about paying the RIGHT PRICE and sizing your position wisely. The AOL–Time Warner story didn’t teach me that lesson. It reinforced it.
