@octothorpe PCPursuit wasn’t shenanigans. Totally legit service that let you use TeleNet (dial up backbone used by aol and compuserve) to make outbound calls in other regions. Was like $30/month. Now you could get to places to learn about shenanigans using it…

@TeamYouTube I can now post comments on youtube, but not with the words "Rosetta West." I cannot cut and paste in my own AOL email with the words Rosetta West. And my band name/videos were clearly downgraded in the search engines. Please help. Never said unkind or controversial thing.

@apark2453 @mmasnick Precisely the same reason digital information providers (like AOL) first embraced the internet as "hey, it's extra content we don't have to pay for" and eventually reduced the exclusive content to nearly zero and made internet service a utility.

@Oddly_familiar @SazeracNELA @AndorianSoup It reminds me of early days on the WWW where every big company was creating their own version of the Web, like AOL, GEnie, Compuserve. If you wanted access to their content, you had to subscribe to their service. If your friends were on that platform, you wanted to be there.
