  • TechArtMaker @techartmaker (@TechArtMaker) reported from Los Angeles, California

@NnnnnDeee @Activoid @pramsey342 @AOC I’m glad you support America Online. Personally, I think it’s a dead platform, but Canada seems perpetually stuck in the past anyway. Now, read the room and go back to whatever it is you Canadians do. Surfing moose-riding chat rooms on AOL I suppose... #Muted for stupidity.

  • SethDaSportsMan Seth Klein (@SethDaSportsMan) reported from Los Angeles, California

@realfakewalter Like, when AOL, emails, and texting first came out, no one really had problems spelling “your” or “you’re”. Now it’s so rampant I think it’s people’s brains have either regressed or they’ve just stopped caring. It’s like Idiocracy

  • CryptoBullRon Ron (@CryptoBullRon) reported from Los Angeles, California

@HaileyLennonBTC I think I handed out over a million AOL discs trying to help people get online so I could sell them a website

  • royeluna roye (@royeluna) reported from Los Angeles, California

Every day I mentally say “files done” in that AOL computer voice ..help.

  • jhamby Jake Hamby (@jhamby) reported from Los Angeles, California

Ok, three dangerous differences, since I gave two: ad auctions and user-created groups. The third bad difference is that AOL used to cost money, so they could easily entice moderators for chat rooms by giving them free accounts. Facebook’s paying moderators & the PTSD is worse.

  • DesireeAndrea 🦋desi baybee 💎 (@DesireeAndrea) reported from Los Angeles, California

I’m about to invest in AOL stock, old ppl refuse to let that shit go

  • jhamby Jake Hamby (@jhamby) reported from Los Angeles, California

I think AOL was just from a slightly more innocent era when digital video cameras hadn’t yet percolated out and Internet gore sites hadn’t filled up with literally the worst that humanity can do to other humans, animals, etc..

  • UKNOWBIGROB Rob (@UKNOWBIGROB) reported from Los Angeles, California

**** All that #EndSARS bullshit. Nigerians been blowing me up begging for money since the AOL days talking bout their a prince. Until you give me my $100 from 02’ it’s **** You #NIGERIAPREVAIL

  • MarisaMendez Marisa Mendez 🧜🏼‍♀️ (@MarisaMendez) reported from Los Angeles, California

All these Lives feels like 8th/9th grade when everyone rushed to be online in the AOL group chats and shit lmao

  • jhamby Jake Hamby (@jhamby) reported from Los Angeles, California

But you would certainly get your account banned from AOL if you were pretending to be a customer service rep for St*rb$$$$ or any other company or governmental organization.

  • el_duderino8184 The Essential Dude (@el_duderino8184) reported from Los Angeles, California

I used to print out naked pics while my parents were at home, and use them for personal research at night.... AOL was way too loud to try that **** when the parents were home

  • switttch scottt 🐢 (@switttch) reported from Los Angeles, California

@lucabrazzers it took FOR-EV-ER to convince her to get AOL, but once she was on she never left. lol

  • jhamby Jake Hamby (@jhamby) reported from Los Angeles, California

The original Microsoft Network, now forgotten after it quickly rebranded into an Internet ISP bundled with Windows, was designed around the AOL style of having a rich native Windows client to provide GUI interfaces to network resources at lower bandwidth than the then-new WWW.

  • StephanieDyas Stephanie Dyas (@StephanieDyas) reported from Los Angeles, California

Imagine if this pandemic had happened in the early 90s when some people maybe had AOL for internet with slow dial up. Now we have FaceTime, Skype, Zoom, Netflix Party and Card Against Humanity virtual games to connect with friends. Could be worse.

  • Kaaydeezy khepri (@Kaaydeezy) reported from Los Angeles, California

@kennygoodwords @anjelflowerz @Clarisaelia Damn I lowkey need my aol email back. My tumblr & old SoundCloud password is in there 🥺

AOL Issues Reports

Latest outage, problems and issue reports in social media:

  • lisamariemims Lisa Mims (@lisamariemims) reported

@stefenenick @lorakolodny AOL chat rooms spawned many male artistic and professional careers. They were awful if you were young and female. I spent years in therapy, talking about some of the narcissist(s) I met in a particular AOL chatroom. It also made me an expert on narcissism. There’s always an upside

  • MJTM Evan (@MJTM) reported

@rationalwalk I am sure it is just the high profile ones that get the attention, but it feels like they mostly fail. VZ buying (and failing with) AOL/Yahoo is the most recent one in my memory

  • jacobtender Jacob Tender (@jacobtender) reported

More gratitude: it was a chore to string it along, but I now have Ethernet going up to my office. First time hard-wired at home since I had AOL. Speed isn't much different, but the reliability issues on my work machine should be gone. The Synology arrives tomorrow.

  • chaoticgood1980 iamchaoticgood (@chaoticgood1980) reported

@AndyNemmity Warner always seems to crap the bed with these mergers, first AOL, then AT&T and this could be the trilogy. It’s karma for dropping WCW for not being, “classy.”

  • Sovereignty101 Popular Sovereignty (@Sovereignty101) reported

Cloud providers are going to need to move to a different pricing scheme eventually. The current model sucks for customers and is like moving back to per minute charge telephone model or AOL circa 1990.

  • Travis_Cabage Travis Cabage (@Travis_Cabage) reported

@MarkNagi @nde1978 IMO, WCW & nWo died the night Goldberg tore through them in the Georgia Dome. The company itself went away because of AOL/Time Warner. But creatively, WCW was never the same after that Nitro.

  • MarkHarrisNYC Mark Harris (@MarkHarrisNYC) reported

I literally just came home to a letter from AT&T informing me that information about my Time Inc. retirement account will henceforth be sent to (wait for it) my AOL address. The history of very bad decisions made by very rich men in one page.

  • TikiRose "only thing we have to fear is fear itself" FDR (@TikiRose) reported

@rak_strong I'd pay to stay on Twitter. I've been paying for over 2 decades to be on AOL back when it first stood for "America On Line". If AOL merged with Twitter for comments on news and articles tied to emails, I'd pay. My AOL accounts have never been hacked.

  • KevDGrussing Kevin D. Grüssing (pronounced Grew-Sing) (@KevDGrussing) reported

@LeoJTravis10 I lean toward AT&T too. Also because they came into the company at a generational end point with their assets and thus were able to cause a substantial level of creative damage that AOL couldn't.

  • KevDGrussing Kevin D. Grüssing (pronounced Grew-Sing) (@KevDGrussing) reported

@MesousaGaby Yeah, the assets were still rolling and in a good place during AOL’s term so it wasn’t too catastrophic Ted getting booted aside. AT&T did so much worse damage b/c they came in at a generational divergence point for the company.
