AOL Issues Reports Near Poway, California

Latest outage, problems and issue reports in Poway and nearby locations:

  • Hendel Lt (ir)Rev Hendel (@Hendel) reported from San Diego, California

I appear to be receiving spam email sent to @aol.com addresses - I’ve never had one. Sure would be useful to dig down and see all the headers on those messages, @SparkMailApp. 🤨

  • justex07 Justin Scott (@justex07) reported from San Diego, California

@itsonlyzach I had that same sort of AOL/Yahoo IM gaymotional support. Literally life saving.

  • socaluncensored SoCal UNCENSORED (@socaluncensored) reported from San Diego, California

I'm going to treat tomorrow like it is 1997 all over again and flip between AEW and NXT in commercial breaks. Also, since there was no social media back then I'm going to sign onto AOL and rage about the shows in a chatroom. After I go to Blockbuster and pick up a disk that is.

@congraved If ever there were a time for AOL to come back..... I guess that's still never.

  • FakeWallyHall Fake Wally Hall (@FakeWallyHall) reported

@BuzzJohnNabors May be difference between watching on SEC+ vs ESPN+. All issues I see are ESPN+. I’m on SEC+ with AOL dial up connection. No issues.

  • MikeBradleyMKE Michael Bradley 🍕 (@MikeBradleyMKE) reported

They had an early chat tool. But it was all within the AOL network. You could use a browser to leave the network, but everything was designed to keep you in there. As high speed came out, folks started getting different ISPs, AOL rolled out AIM as a chat & file sharing tool...

  • OppressorHutch Oppressor Hutchenson (@OppressorHutch) reported

@aguy123452 @soncharm I've never actually talked to an AOL user about the service before and I've always wanted to ask this: back when movie trailers always advertised an AOL keyword at the end, did you ever go fire up AOL and type it in? Like, was this a thing people did?

  • heythereitsmish michellokitty 😻🖤 (@heythereitsmish) reported

This website might be a total shitshow rn but 11 year old me would die if she knew who retweeted her today - especially bc she was still on AOL and wouldn’t know wtf Twitter is.

  • NoUselessTech ησυѕєℓєѕѕтє¢н (@NoUselessTech) reported

@thorpsec Favorite on site: Helped a lady setup a new machine computer in 2015 with a modem so she could connect to AOL. Scariest: Had to help an enterprise that was running on OS/2 and Token Ring in 2015. Most Recent: Customer's mouse died which is why we couldn't recreate in store.

  • MAHaas9 Michael A. Haas (@MAHaas9) reported

@SaraJLeen Yet, they were active Winamp devs/skin'rs when AOL stuffed the player with all kinds of monetization scams and they didn't complain then. It sucks that Eris tunes his DeClassified skins so they don't work in 5.8 or 5.9. Petty - so much outreach and goodwill could be had. Pity.

  • Stuffmybrosays2 Stuffmybrosays (@Stuffmybrosays2) reported

Here's the thing. If Twitter charges a monthly fee, then it should be add free. Pick where your revenue comes from. AOL had an awful lot of pre-social media stuff. And we paid for it.

  • MikeBradleyMKE Michael Bradley 🍕 (@MikeBradleyMKE) reported

The thing about the internet in the 90s is that it was painfully slow. So there was a huge user experience improvement staying in the walled garden, versus going to 3rd party sites. But by the end of the 90s, AOL was kinda expensive and a bunch of cheap ISPs (Juno, etc) piled in.

  • TheRealHoarse The Hoarse Whisperer (@TheRealHoarse) reported

@joshtpm It is a triumvirate of stupid. That insipid Sacks dude is just dumb as a goddamned stump… and Calacanis hasn’t had an interesting thought since people got internet access from AOL.
