My mom controlled our AOL account when I was about 13 and would come into my room to sign me in. So, I created an entirely fake AOL login flow in Visual Basic and had her sign me in once to capture the password. Old school phishing.

@joshelman AOL was a literal life changer for me. That dial up sound may be awful but even to this day it makes me want to go back a little

Kids these days will never know what it was like to ask someone to get off the phone so you can get on the internet only for you to have to listen to AOL start up that sounded like a screeching cat being thrown into a wood chipper. You can never unhear that noise

I would so go back to 1988. I'd just work a crap job and save money until I could buy stock in Apple, Google, and AOL (I'd sell the AOL stock by the late 90s though, before it crashed). I'd make so much money. #LaBreaNBC

@trumanboyes Dialing BBSs off the back of Computer User. Downloads at 600 and then 1200 baud, turn based BBS games Head to head Doom over the phone… eventually getting my own line. Dogpile, Ask Jeeves, looking down on AOL. Tweaked JavaScript on the Juno dial up client / no ads or timer

@RichLightShed How $T @ATT screwed up that BEAUTIFUL VERTICAL company is beyond me. This goes down as stupid as the Time Warner AOL disaster. BOTH of these deals should have been the ultimate media communication companies and yet both screwed it up. as a shareholder in $T $AOL JESUS PEOPLE!
