@ccwu I remember being a Quantum Link subscriber on my Commodore 64 and 300 baud modem and that service disappearing fairly quickly. I only learned later from Kara Swisher's book on AOL that Quantum Link was the precursor to AOL.

@KLGLASS2 @Shakti74572 @AOL BE BEST WOOD fits her image perfectly bc the woman is empty as a brickwall cold as an ice cube boring as a slab of wood. Basically an empty ugly soul who will go down in history books as insignificant. Plagiarizer. Liar. Plastic. No compassion whatsoever for kids dying in cages

@stephendelong78 @CALWDA @JulieSuCA @CA_EDD #CAEDD Is a complete disaster. INCOMPETENCE. It’s like as if someone who has dial-up Internet, an AOL email account and thinks ctrl+alt+delete is tech support is running the IT programming Dept. @CA_EDD The “pending” glitches and lack of cust. service needs to end ! PUA, PEUC>PAY

  • w00t John Vantine (@w00t) reported from Oakland, California

@mygiantrobot DMX - Ruff Ryders Anthem. Pre-Napster, there were private chat rooms on AOL where people would “serve” MP3s. So painfully slow on a 14.4 kbit/s dial-up connection. Simpler times!

So like a month ago I heard a song on @CD929fm that sampled the “You’ve got mail” sound from AOL but it replaced “mail” with “friends.” I’ve been trying everywhere to find it for the past week and I can’t and it’s driving me crazy. In related news I’ve never hated Toy Story more

  • GeauxGabrielle Gabrielle Perry, MPH (@GeauxGabrielle) reported

Never forget post-Columbine media censorship and 90s AOL chatroom DWEEBS literally ruined what would have been the 2 most iconic Scream sequel storylines. 1. Stu Macher coming back from the dead 2. Jerry O’Connell and Sidney’s Black best friend being the killers in Scream 2

  • BostonTerrierAL David Price (@BostonTerrierAL) reported

@kirupa My computer at the time was too slow, so I just learned how to do it manually. I had a great tutorial written by the Mosaic browser people. I did use AOL pages some to help me learn page output. It was a lot of fun back then.

@witchyglitch Ronald D Moore once said in an AOL chat back in 1997 (**** you not) - "Odo modeled his look after Dr. Mora and the Founders then modeled their look after Odo. They did this initially as a compliment and way of reaching out to their long-lost Changeling (continued)

at some point nine or ten years ago, Microsoft was thiiiiiiiis close to moving its ad business from AppNexus to AOL. I actually have heard that it DID – the news was handed down and AN clawed it back. They ended up splitting the biz, Appnexus pretty much won out and here we are.
