My mom controlled our AOL account when I was about 13 and would come into my room to sign me in. So, I created an entirely fake AOL login flow in Visual Basic and had her sign me in once to capture the password. Old school phishing.

@The_Katbot It was also the reason I managed to push my parents off of AOL and move on to a better ISP, since AOL required its launcher to be open to stay online. I think it was a common complaint. Before that, I would use Net Zero accounts until I was flagged as a "heavy user" good times.

AOL! TERRIBLE! It was to mean “America On Line”! Could not keep a tech advisor complete a help request on line to resolve problems with my email. Jess said “hello, what seems to be the problem” then disappeared and I had to pay to get him on line to start! VERIZON wake up please!

I tried to customize my Slack color scheme and it’s nothing short of appalling. Come to think of it, I never really was good at AOL color profiles, either.

@AOL I feel bad for her. This guy wanted to cheat on his wife [ she didn't know he was married ] Then wanted to get rid of the problem when he was to dumb to use protection. 😐

@SwollenDome @LaVarArrington I don't know if this happened online, but this happened back in the summer of '99-'00 the only thing was AOL. A kid in my class missed a goal in a soccer game that could've moved us on. He ended up transferring senior year for getting **** on.

@telzo5000 @amazon My last 3 prime orders came late and all they will do is offer you $5.00 that you can only use on something sold and shipped by amazon. Billion dollar company and cant even offer a free month. Aol would offer 3 months free if you told them you wanted to cancel. SMFH.

Yall don't even know how much AOL influenceed the way we text and interact online. The first typing indicators, the birth of "lol" etc. If it wasn't for emoticons we'd never have emojis. Chat rooms are now messenger apps like fb.

@rcousine @ednl Decades ago when people were first signing up for AOL or Compuserve they'd try for a username like Robert or Ryan and the service would suggest Robert09 or Ryan17. Some woman was offered Judy13 which was so good she changed her last name to 13.

I've been binging the crap out of Forensic Files. Some of these people are SO bad at crime they probably didn't need to get scientists involved. It's also funny to see the earliest days of computer forensics, involving repairing 5 1/4” floppy discs and talking to people at AOL
