@maximlott @PCivilization @PrisonPlanet The barriers to creating a web site are far lower than creating a power company. We’ve had competing social network companies for years, from AOL to MySpace to G+. Creating another WalMart would be harder, but we don’t demand they give away products for free.

@octothorpe PCPursuit wasn’t shenanigans. Totally legit service that let you use TeleNet (dial up backbone used by aol and compuserve) to make outbound calls in other regions. Was like $30/month. Now you could get to places to learn about shenanigans using it…

@karu1402 That list is ridiculous. Only thing on there I've never done is the AOL Email account. Most of those things I've done in the last 5 years and have written a cheque in the last 24 hours.

@NeolithicSheep Same. Never had an AOL account either. But I've sent a fax in the last week. As stupid as it is, it's still the norm or even required in a lot of industries.

@LeslieStreeter I don't think the AOL one should count for people in countries where AOL wasn't a thing. I never had Myspace, either. I had my own internet by 1994 but always thought Myspace seemed lame.

@16bitnostalgia only 2 points, never had a myspace account (did not do social media at that time) nor an AOL account (I used prodigy classic at that time, then after that switched to dial up a PPP connection, then DSL and now on fiber)
