-
Chris Messina (chrismessina@mastodon.xyz) (@chrismessina) reported from Oakland, California@seeminglee @xoxogossipgita Good point. Unfortunately Flickr is one of those internet brands that can probably never be sufficiently evolved without angering a core, vocal userbase, like still existing AOL customers.
-
Paul Rodriguez (@rod4p) reported from San Francisco, California@AOL I agree. The problem is a lot of people either can't afford or have no room to store clothes. Very sad.😐
-
John Vantine (@w00t) reported from Oakland, California@mygiantrobot DMX - Ruff Ryders Anthem. Pre-Napster, there were private chat rooms on AOL where people would “serve” MP3s. So painfully slow on a 14.4 kbit/s dial-up connection. Simpler times!

-
Yasmine Scallan (@yasSF) reported from San Francisco, CaliforniaAOL! TERRIBLE! It was to mean “America On Line”! Could not keep a tech advisor complete a help request on line to resolve problems with my email. Jess said “hello, what seems to be the problem” then disappeared and I had to pay to get him on line to start! VERIZON wake up please!
-
pkellner (@pkellner) reported from San Francisco, California@julielerman @AOL My dad asked me once why his computer was so slow. He said he had bought some software from Nigeria for a great deal that was suppose to speed it up.
-
JJSignal™ (@jjsignal) reported from El Cerrito, California@The_Katbot It was also the reason I managed to push my parents off of AOL and move on to a better ISP, since AOL required its launcher to be open to stay online. I think it was a common complaint. Before that, I would use Net Zero accounts until I was flagged as a "heavy user" good times.
-
Natasha Vo (@TenantsUpstairs) reported from San Francisco, Californiamy first aol screen name was sk8rgrl91 so never had any doubt about it
-
Paul Rodriguez (@rod4p) reported from San Francisco, California@AOL I feel bad for her. This guy wanted to cheat on his wife [ she didn't know he was married ] Then wanted to get rid of the problem when he was to dumb to use protection. 😐
-
el sole, himself. (@sunnyfbaby) reported from Oakland, California@solesupremacy AOL -> chats -> Japan -> bay area a-z-ns lol. Damn im that old
-
Zach Roth | zachroth.eth (@ZachRoth) reported from San Francisco, CaliforniaI straight called AOL tech support at one point to ask them how to open a “dot ZIP” file.
-
Jason Roy (@mrjasonroy) reported from San Francisco, California@jpawgmafia Downloading the STATE logos off of AOL online and printing them up and putting them in my room. That aged the **** out of me.
-
San Francisco Native (@SFnatives) reported from San Francisco, California@stephendelong78 @CALWDA @JulieSuCA @CA_EDD #CAEDD Is a complete disaster. INCOMPETENCE. It’s like as if someone who has dial-up Internet, an AOL email account and thinks ctrl+alt+delete is tech support is running the IT programming Dept. @CA_EDD The “pending” glitches and lack of cust. service needs to end ! PUA, PEUC>PAY
-
espi (@espi) reported from San Francisco, CaliforniaI tried to customize my Slack color scheme and it’s nothing short of appalling. Come to think of it, I never really was good at AOL color profiles, either.

-
Paul Rodriguez (@rod4p) reported from San Francisco, California@AOL Poor lady she tried to help. Maybe if she would have helped the student pay they would have left her alone. Very sad.🙁
AOL Issues Reports
Latest outage, problems and issue reports in social media:
-
Zoey (@FartCaptor) reported@Nymphomachy iirc I got my family kicked off AOL in like middle school, because some **** from school was giving me **** via instant message and I told him I'd kill him if he didn't leave me alone
-
dragula racer, M.E. (@ToastyDecline) reportedLike, younger folks don't really understand how bad the internet was in certain ways. I 100% guarantee I had unknowing conversations with pedos in AOL chatrooms, but since "don't tell anyone who you are online" and "don't trust internet strangers" was part of my web upbringing---
-
Angelina says Expand SCOTUS! (@MemphisBelle111) reported@tonyposnanski Lolololol. AOL tried double-billing me once. **** them.
-
El Serge (@El_Serge_) reportedIs AOL Chat Rooms not working for anyone else?
-
della ~ 🍒💣 (@della_morte_) reported@Nymphomachy Actually, thinking about this for a hot minute, even if we go with 1981 as the oldest millenial, AOL IM hit in 1997 when they were 16 so right at the age they would be using it heavily. Almost all millenials have been on the unsafe big bad internet as kids.
-
Shonny Constant (@ShonnyConstant) reportedWait, Facebook was down? What are the chances it would happen just as my 500 free hours of AOL ran out. Now I'm on the hook for another year for no reason.
-
📵🔨 Adult-Coded Sex Frog 📵🔨 (@oknolisten) reported@cursed_hockey @peculiarsarah_ @RileyMiner this was my experience. i was also linked **** like ********** in aol chatrooms when i was 12 or random beheaded animal gore and there was zero way to report that **** back then.
-
Collectors Dashboard (@CollectorsDash1) reported@NickRevell317 @CardPurchaser Funny you say that. I always said it was extension of phone/email. They could have integrated video, allowed better file sharing and subscription model. Teams, zoom and Slack all in one. But they had 2010 AOL and Yahoo management or a 3-legged cat burying **** on a frozen pond.
-
Y Combinator (s21) l DigiBuild l Blockchain l Tech (@RobertJSalvador) reported@twobitidiot I agree with most of this but I do think enterprise blockchain onboards society into a fully decentralized web 3 one day. Similar to how AOL broke the ground for today’s Web 2.0 winners. Some companies need a slow transition and enterprise blockchain does have its uses.
-
Darrell Jones - ✍️HMPBs (@d_d_jones) reported@ScottMStedman And I don’t know how AOL is now but we had to send them voluminous packet dumps and tell them how to fix something so that some of our users could use them. A network. Go figure. 😜
