Something I remembered about AOL Instant Messenger: when you added someone to your buddy list, that person didn’t know!!! Unless you IM’d that person, they would never know that you knew them??? So weird, is there any social network like that anymore?

Idk just like... I know Twitter wasn't meant for kids, still isn't meant for kids. But as adults we have a responsibility to keep that **** private. Just bc I had AOL kids i wasn't completely safe, one pokemon image search away from being traumatized, and now it's even easier-

@markmobility @nytimes has been hot garbage for a minute Cancelled my sub after the Tom Cotton op-Ed, (even that was a mess. Wouldn’t let me go. Hour on the phone, emails. Had to turn just cancel PayPal finally. Reminded my of quitting AOL back in the day)

@spacebtwn1013 Sisters was my gateway drug, but that was early AOL and there wasn’t the community as we knew it now. ER and fandom and its yahoo groups/LJ taught me that I wasn’t weird for wanting to expand the stories beyond 43m. But SVU wow. Never stuck with a show this long even in

@DelucaDougie @larry0x its more like the Myspace or AOL of the internet. Network effect isn't constant. You will lose that over time as better networks with better UX come along.
