@ScooterComputer @scottrudy Maybe you were also thinking of: way back when the Messages app on Mac was called “iChat,” it was envisioned to be interoperable with many messaging platforms. Only a couple besides Apple’s iMessage bought in (AOL and I think Jabber?), so this vision never got off the ground.

@aaronbarr You may be right, and may be wrong, but I am not going to support regulation based on a feeling that something might get better just because people feel we need to "do something" - doing the wrong thing has massive consequences. See, e.g., AOL and "breast cancer".
