My greatest accomplishment was with those AOL free trial CDs. You know, the ones you used to have to use to get dial up internet. “screech, scratch, bu-**** bu-****.” Every three months I’d call to cancel and they’d give me a 3 month extension. Kept that up for like 3 years.

@joehewitt My view? It's been "rolling out" for a while- I remember garbage like this from my AOL days... Just (a) hitting everywhere and (b) a more entitled and empowered (Both, yes) generation pushing back 1/

@Caraboo900 @JudeKnight14 There's always ways around... even back in the AOL days... if someone tries hard enough. The issue is that they don't have to try hard at all. As I said, I know people ban evading on @Twitter right this second in plain sight. But no action is taken. They don't have to dance.

@PrasadKarwa @ArtofLiving @iahv Thanks for posting. I was in the middle of an argument with a friend about what service AOL has been doing in this pandemic. :)

correction: @modernserf correctly notes that AOL didn't launch in 1997; it was around since the 80s. But in 1996, they moved from an hourly rate to a flat monthly rate, which caused home internet service to really take off here.

@Mayhem4Markets @AllBusinessPump Bad example considering close ended AOL was replaced by the open internet protocol. It isn’t Btc that’s AOL in this comparison.

An integration for @SlackHQ that lets you have your previous AOL sign-on song when you become active, and that horrible door closing sound when you log off or leave a stupid channel in fury.

@JinxOfCascadia #aol literally mailed these to us like monthly. The postage on that plus zillions of free disks at every register of every #blockbuster and in every issue of every magazine.... the wasted plastic is astonishing. #recycling
