We had dude's running local ISP services out of like a closet and you could get service for like $10/month. The BBS situation was also off the hook. I had no problem getting games from a random Warez site.

Dave Griffith (@davemcfly) reported@Miller_Joe_ @RetroNewsNow you did not need AOL to use it it was it's own thing you just went to the site and downloaded it and create an account for it. I still have it installed on my old windows 7 PC lol even tho it is dead now I just never deleted it.

I wasn't allowed to watch ninja turtles or have caffeine and they made me use Integrity Online instead of AOL so I didn't really see any cool zombie movies or learn about evolution etc. maybe I'll start now (zombie movies not biology)

That endless string of beeps, warbles, and static—like a robot choir warming up—followed by "You've got mail" in that chipper AOL voice. Pure '90s/'00s nostalgia Kids today scroll TikTok at lightspeed on 5G and have no clue about the agony of a dropped connection mid-download or racing to hang up before Mom's call came in.

You would have to associate with some of the worst people that you don't even like. Who needs that headache?
