@ItsJamieDrfc96 Itv news said it is very serious. Think it was a cyber attack on Facebook. Plus WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook messenger are all owned by Facebook. That's why they all went down. Back to normal now. Plus every network went down. O2, Vodafone, three and EE

Look @MSNBC @CNN Facebook is so essential to people's lives it just cannot be constrained. The only way to deal was when Bell Telephone Co. was broken up years ago into "baby bells" in my opinion. Break it up, sell the pieces off. At least Instagram from FB messenger.

FB outage last night caused me major problems as I had details of 2 different work projects that I needed this morning only on FB Messenger! 😩 Now heard back from both parties who were fully understanding/OK about it - but going back to notepad and pen with immediate effect! 👍

I found myself opening #discord with my roommates just to talk about a PSE/G problem bc our usual apt chat in FB Messenger was disabled. I actually used Snapchat for the first time in forever. Sorry not sorry, I'm against Facebook owning everything social media...

Also... as I was just remarking to a friend, I spend so much time feeling terrible/ anxious about my own life... I can't do that and maintain sustained fb messenger convo about what other people are doing. it's just not feasible

@TheRealHoarse The reason why Facebook paid billions of dollars for WhatsApp, a messaging service superior to Facebook Messenger in every way, is precisely because FB saw a secure, reliable, non-data-gobbling messaging infrastructure as a threat to their own systems. Very important globally.

Likewise, if everyone you know uses Facebook Messenger, and Facebook goes down, it doesn't help you much that WhatsApp is still up. In each case, lots of alternatives exist (Signal, Telegram, etc.), but the problem is that the one everyone you know uses is down.

@CommonestMan @cg505_ @alexhern Not if you can't route to the network, then you need physical access to the console, managed by door card readers authenticating against an LDAP that can't be routed to. And you can't reach co-workers for help because comms use WA and FB Messenger, that can't be routed to.
