@jeyfree21 @AsteadWesley good Android phones aren't really all that much cheaper than the equivalent iPhones. i think the bigger issue is that in the US, people just use the stock messaging app on their phones whereas Whatsapp, Signal, Facebook Messenger, etc are more popular elsewhere

I upgraded from an iphone 11 to an iphone 13 and I can not get my fb messenger to work at all. When I try to log in, I get the following message. I have done everything recommended to try and “fix” this. So, as of now, I can’t use my messenger at all.

It's maybe the last free online "service" I can remember using that was actually free and actually a service. It was ubiquitous, Facebook Messenger replaced it, but then Facebook fell heavily out of use and favour with many folks, who are now off FB but still on its Messenger
