  @BBCLookEast With landlines becoming broadband only, and Freely starting to replace Freeview we are becoming 100% dependent on broadband. That has dangerous implications for resilence if broadband goes down, or worse if you never had adequate broadband at all.

  So the advantage of Freely is that unlike Freeview, when my internet goes down I also lose my TV. Technology continues to improve our lives.

  @superTV247 Simple answer of course would just be to let viewers decide and make the tv licence voluntary. If people want the BBC they will pay for it. The licence is a poll tax - the poorest and the richest pay the same - and very regressive. Why force the poor to pay to watch freeview tv

  Worst case scenario on That's TV channels on Freeview I'm posting this because Freeview channel 75 That's Entertainment deadline is over and nothing been broadcasting yet the deadline was on Wednesday 22nd July 2026. Freeview channel 7 & 8 That's Local channels are not affected by this. All That's channels on Freeview will be removed from the EPG without notice.   @HelenFish249972 I don’t even think I pay for mine. I had Freeview for years, then Sky had a good deal as a new customer, I went to cancel this year as I’d had it two years and they basically kept it at the same price again. It was actually a few quid lower. I only pay £20 odd the internet, and

  @BBC I hear that Freeview is being turned off at some point in the future. Well you will lose my payment for the TV licence as that's how I watch TV & if you get rid then I won't be able to watch & I'll cancel my licence. Not a very clever decision to make is it?

  MILLIONS FACE LOSS OF FREEVIEW TV AFTER LOBBYING BY BBC AND ITV BACKED BODY Freeview which serves 13.6 million homes and 40 percent of UK households with more than 70 channels including BBC One ITV Channel 4 and Channel 5 could be axed after 2034 under government plans to end digital terrestrial television. Ministers are expected to publish a consultation paper within weeks setting out the path to an internet only future in the mid 2030s with the switch depending on universal affordable superfast broadband. Campaigners at Silver Voices which represents older people have launched a petition warning the move would disproportionately hit elderly low income and rural viewers who rely on aerials rather than streaming. The push is driven by The Connection Project a lobbying body funded by the BBC ITV Vodafone and BT all of whom stand to benefit commercially from moving viewers online and reducing costs of maintaining one platform. Dennis Reed of Silver Voices said the companies funding The Connection Project all have a commercial interest in moving services online and older viewers deserve better. The Connection Project responded that the transition preserves everyones right to free public service TV via broadband with subsidised costs where needed while the BBC and Department for Culture Media and Sport confirmed they are working to ensure nobody is left behind.   @Selene_Mariposa The law says you need to be covered by a TV Licence to: watch or record TV on any channel - via any TV service (e.g. Sky or Freeview) or watch TV live on any streaming service On any device. You can opt out n if you don’t do the above. So it is not a tax for simply owning a TV
