Imagine how much of a Christmas miracle it would be if BBC3 came back to freeview number 7. I can picture it now, Gavin & Stacey returns and BBC3 makes a comeback. 25/12/19 would go down in history.

@jamiebglover Get Freeview for FREE, If it’s such a great service why won’t pay a subscription. #DefundTheBBC

  • Chris_Stone1970 Long Scarf Publications - Charity books r us! (@Chris_Stone1970) reported

@cal_on_demand @kkbigk @OwenJones84 A marginal market at most. What about educational TV? Minority output like Welsh language programmes? Who would finance the freeview transmitters maintenance? Local news? Non-commerical radio? BBC website? World Service?

  • TrilbeeReviews MrTARDIS (@TrilbeeReviews) reported

@tTaseric The "enforcement" issue is astonishingly overblown. Also, you need the license to watch non-BBC channels but the license-fee also covers the maintaining and upkeep of Freeview services so those non-BBC channels can even be broadcast.

  • lewismj_waioeka Michael Lewis (@lewismj_waioeka) reported

@Aiannucci @Channel4 How is not forcing people to pay for a service they may not want 'coming for' ? What is your problem? A pensioner for example, may decide to save money and stick to Freeview. Why force them to pay for BBC. If BBC is great, then people will subscribe.

@BillboBilleric1 @alr6872 @mrdanwalker You consume nothing at all that is funded from the BBC? Never watch or listen to them Never use their websites Never use broadband Don't use Freeview or Freesat. But even if true, yes I do, as a society we all have to fund things we don't use directly.

  • EastLight EastLight (@EastLight) reported

@jamiebglover @CatsAreLoud You can't really defend the BBC's technical standards. They foisted Freeview upon us- the quality on SD channels has always been terrible- worse than VHS. Likewise DAB radio sounds poor, and BBC national FM radio still uses NICAM distribution- lossy compression of the 1970s kind.

  • aw_mckinley Andrew McKinley (@aw_mckinley) reported

Sick of morons saying "I only use 3 BBC services, licence fee is not good value". But: you can only use one service at a time-your argument is invalid. If you use ONE service, you justify the license fee. Freeview is one such service. DAB is another. Even for non-BBC content.

  • am_henderson Al Henderson (@am_henderson) reported

@tafallen Don't they also maintain the freeview transmitter network?

  • Xiaotingia xiaotingia (@Xiaotingia) reported

@pauljamestailor @Av8trix1 @bbcpress Never check the news headlines online? Never listen to local radio stations in the car for traffic reports? Never listen to R1 & 2? Never use Freeview, hosted by the Beeb, or watch their classy repeats on Dave, etc? Never used iPlayer? Yeah, right...

  • PCarmichaelVO Paul Carmichael (@PCarmichaelVO) reported

@TheNine96539330 @TheLastHatGirl @NadineDorries I’ll defend programming for the disabled, Freeview maintenance to give access to TV for the elderly and poor, resources for schools and Welsh/Gaelic language programming all the way. If you don’t agree, that’s your choice. Cheers!
