@HBOMaxHelp I once brought down a global agency database by writing a Cartesian Join. I was jeered a bit and I made the sys admins mad but no one persecuted me for it. I hope you help the intern through it. Learn and move on!

  • verbalhamradio 🎙Verbal Ham Radio (@verbalhamradio) reported

@HBOMaxHelp We are updating & that seems to fix it. A better UE would be if users were prompted to update when the app is updated; you know, since HBO developers are aware it breaks the app for older versions? Otherwise, maybe $5 off; like you would charge a late fee if not paid on time.

  • smackdown Siobhan (@smackdown) reported

@HBOMaxHelp Pro tip my pals: blaming the intern isn't how you create a blameless culture that attracts the quality of SRE/PEs you so clearly need to help your production environment survive. This tweet is something someone should be fired for. Or keep losing talent. Your choice.

  • arshharjani arsh (@arshharjani) reported

@HBOMaxHelp Now that y’all are paying attention, could you please fix the apps? Thanks. And don’t fire the intern.

  • tzahi12345 tzahi (@tzahi12345) reported

@The_Moon_Mayor @HBOMaxHelp Oh 100% unpaid internships are terrible. At large companies like HBO I'm sure they pay competitively. The college I went to didn't allow companies to recruit that didn't pay interns. Crazy that it's still mostly legal.

  • speijnik Stephan Peijnik-Steinwender (@speijnik) reported

Dear @hbomax engineer who sent out mails by: don't worry, gather your team, find the root cause and take steps to prevent this in the future. Those seeing a data protection issue: this could be a simple mistake with a wrongly targeted distribution list as well. (1/2)

  • aprotim aprotim 💉💉🎉| অপ্রতিম | அப்ரதிம் | अप्रतिम (@aprotim) reported

@HBOMaxHelp The best thing to happen to me as a new engineer was screwing up & realizing the people around me didn't blame me, they supported me, helped solve the problem and fixed the system. I dunno what kind of shame spiral I'd've hit if the co's Twitter account pointed the finger at me.

  • jonathandances jonathan meader (@jonathandances) reported

How is @hbomax ‘s streaming quality so absolutely terrible?!? It is unwatchable with all of the skipping, loading and buffering. No other streaming service is like this...

  • CarlHighfill Carl Highfill (@CarlHighfill) reported

@HBOMaxHelp What’s up with your crappy made app. No matter how I’m watching HBO Max, whether it be my smart tv, Fire Cube or iPhone I get OOPS there’s a problem error constantly even during a movie or tv show. Charge $14.99 for a service and you can barely use it. #DoBetter HBO

  • CarlHighfill Carl Highfill (@CarlHighfill) reported

@HBOMaxHelp Is your crappy made app the interns fault too? No matter how I’m watching HBO Max, whether it be on my smart tv, Fire Cube or iPhone I get OOPS there’s a problem error constantly even during a movie or tv show. Charge $14.99 for a service and you can barely use it. #DoBetter HBO

  • playlistkiller1 —playlistkiller— (@playlistkiller1) reported

@positronicshell @hbomax First day on the job sending out the first email of a campaign and I definitely sent an email template with links that don’t work

  • CarlHighfill Carl Highfill (@CarlHighfill) reported

@hbomaxmovies @hbomax Yeah real easy with your crappy made app. No matter how I’m watching HBO Max, whether it be on my smart tv, Fire Cube or iPhone I get OOPS there’s a problem error constantly even during a movie or tv show. Charge $14.99 for a service and you can barely use it. #DoBetter HBO

@hbomax you gotta fix your app across allll devices, **** sucks

  • jdzondo Jason Elizondo (@jdzondo) reported

@HBOMaxHelp If that’s the worst thing that’s happened today in you dev shop I call that a good day.

  • jurai B (@jurai) reported

@w4www_raker @HBOMaxHelp Yes dumbass, I manage postfix servers

  • IAmGem13 gema (@IAmGem13) reported

@HBOMaxHelp my account was stolen… I have screenshots and can verify identity... Please help 🙏

  • sillywampa keith h. (@sillywampa) reported

@HBOMaxHelp if an intern has access to production, you have bigger problems. Don't blame the intern, blame whoever let them do it. I'd gladly buy that intern lunch and tell them not to sweat it.

  • ursaashbear Will Ashinhurst (@ursaashbear) reported

@HBOMaxHelp @Hobbitzez This does seem like par for the course considering the abysmal app quality and horrendous UI. Seems like the intern is doing everything.

  • spicyeddie Spicy Eddie (@spicyeddie) reported

@Tim_Stevens @hbomax There is nothing wrong with testing in production. It can ensure everything is running smoothly and can detect issues following a deploy. The trick is making sure those tests don’t come anywhere near actual customer data.

  • KellyResists Kelly J. 🗽 (@KellyResists) reported

@hbomax is the worst app in the history of apps. Nothing is playing tonight. I feel like just giving up.

  • LeninCeb Lenin Ceballos (@LeninCeb) reported

@HBOMaxHelp Relax, CEOs make worst mistakes.

  • drjonsimpkins Jon Simpkins, PhD (@drjonsimpkins) reported from Austin, Texas

@HBOMaxHelp Yeah, it's incredibly ****** of you to call out the intern part of this, I promise you that staff engineers make mistakes too, and it's only because of systemic issues that a single "oops" can make Twitter go apeshit like it did today. It's no interns fault

  • ZakLaughton Zak Laughton (@ZakLaughton) reported from Hutto, Texas

    • Architects after a bridge collapse: "That bridge didn't meet structural standards!" • Pilots after a plane crash: "The pre-flight checks weren't properly done!" • Developers after @hbomax accidentally sends a test email to all their customers: "lol yeah that happens"

  • JeremyCMorgan Jeremy Morgan 🌲👨‍💻🌲 (@JeremyCMorgan) reported

@HBOMaxHelp Teachable moment. Allow that same intern to fix it and give an internal talk on what happened. Everyone grows. Also, get in touch with @kyliebytes!!

  • TheMOPros MO Pros (@TheMOPros) reported

@kyliebytes @hbomax There's this thing called @StackMoxie. It can help.

  • codeslubber Rob Williams (@codeslubber) reported

@HBOMaxHelp Kind of as absurd as the CEO of VW saying a rogue developer did the test cheating device: the org making it possible for an intern to spam a trusted list of subscribers is the problem here, not the intern’s goof.

  • invisiblecircus The Savage She-Sulk (@invisiblecircus) reported

@thecultureofme @hbomax I got the same thing!! westworld glitch

  • bluepnume Daniel Brain (@bluepnume) reported

@HBOMaxHelp The intern must be a fast learner. It usually takes us a few years to get to the point where we cause some big public mishap on the production servers or database.

  • alixplox alixplox (@alixplox) reported from Chicago, Illinois

@edgardecay @hbomax Every single email marketers worst nightmare. I bet you they will meme their way out of this! 🙃

  • xssfox xssfox (@xssfox) reported

@ChloeCondon @hbomax it's a good test, it seemed to work, and the engineer got feedback that the test passed.
