Brian Lund (@bclund) reportedAfter being a customer for 20+ years at @IBKR, I’m seriously considering changing brokers. Earlier this week, I got a margin call notice, which made no sense because my account is fully funded. Turns out it was tied to an old secondary account I created years ago to sweep in some non-marketable securities — you know, those dregs we’ve all held onto that technically went to zero but still somehow show up in the account. (Don’t lie, you’ve done it too.) Anyway, this account has sat idle for years, and for some reason it incurred a $12 charge, which pushed the zero-balance account into a margin call. I’ve tried contacting @IBKR numerous times about this, but if you know anything about IB, customer service is not the reason you use them. I even wired funds into the account to clear it. They show they received it, but I can’t find any record of it being credited, and I suspect it may have been applied to the wrong account. There was a time when it made sense to use Interactive Brokers because they had aggressive commissions and access to hard-to-trade issues. But nowadays, that advantage is mostly gone. I’m seriously wondering why I would stay with them when such a minuscule issue has turned into such a major pain in the ***.

Requires ID, Password, then an SMS Code (which always worked_ but now takes you to a page that requires scanning a QR Code on your phone using the phone APP. Nothing but HELL. Missed trades, timed put while trying to update information, and on and on. Tried talking to HELP but could not even understand the individual claiming to speak English (no offence to the person). If you cannot communicate, then what is the purpose of HELP? So now logging in through PORTAL requires both the lap top and a cell phone APP to use the lap top. RE: Response from IBCS at 24-Jul-2025 Dear Mr. ______, This is a follow up to our conversation from earlier today. Your request has been approved and your account can continue to use SMS text as the two factor authentication method. Please let me know if you have any additional questions. Stan (@xbc9stazj) reportedAfter around 1 year of investing I transferred all my positions from @DEGIRO to @IBKR for risk exposure I had gone from 81.5K€ to 160K€ but the inflation prints and the overall bearishness cycle slowly landed me around ~113K€ Around that time I decided to load up on $RKLB warrants because I loved the company so much (yes, there were $RKLB warrants at some point) These contracts - I didn’t know it at the time - had pretty simple but specific rules : If the stock traded higher than $10 for an extended period of time (~2 weeks I think) the company could redeem them, no matter what the current price was. And man did they redeem them The stock was trading at $8 when they did so, offering us the option to buy the stock at the warrant strike price, $11.5, making them basically worthless on a cash basis I got demolished. I freaked out so bad I didn’t where to hide, for the first time as a market participant, I wanted to cry When I discovered there was a cashless exercice option that gave ~0.3 share per warrant, I was actually relieved. But the damage to my portfolio was severe regardless, basically a 70% wipeout on that massive position I didn’t know it at the time but that event was the trigger for a highway to 14K€ When I said in my quoted tweet that it’s going to be hard, this is what I’m referring to
