maqp (@markus_ottela) reported
@ljean @WellKnownAlias @signalapp The person having to deal with one more app is the problem, not the company removing features with fundamentally broken security.
-
Pete the Cyber Protector (@plgonzalez86) reported
@AndrewNowlin @signalapp Which means that it was a problem they tried to tackle but it is not realistic or good use of their limited resources to keep the development of said features
-
Nariod (@Nariod_Sec) reported
@markus_ottela @aikensource @signalapp Sadly, being elitist does not help "normal" people transition to secure apps such as Signal.
-
TheShootyLoots (@TheShootyLoots) reported
@specialjesse @signalapp Same. I've had a lot of success getting people on signal because they could replace their default texting app and automatically get secure messaging for free. OTOH I've had issues messaging people who use signal but not as their default and am forced to use SMS.

@signalapp removing SMS support is such a terrible decision, what to use now? @session_app - please implement?

@signalapp removing SMS support is such a terrible decision, what to use instead?

Compassion and Sarcasm (@SandtheB) reported
@signalapp SMS is a legacy service that is STILL not going anywhere.. even if everyone on planet earth gets an iPhone SMS would still be used in low key ways. #DeleteSignal

@signalapp This is super sad news, as my use of the app goes down, i suspect so will my monthly donation 😭
-
KopfKrieg 🏳️🌈 (@KopfKrieg_) reported
@signalapp Could you maybe not? This is a terrible decision for users.
-
Pangaea (@Pangaea__) reported
@signalapp terrible, terrible decision, i most likely wont be able to use signal for most of my texts anymore, and most of my normal friends will probably move to some other insecure app the moment they see this
-
Emily Dare (@TheEmilyDare) reported
@signalapp I get some of the underlying logic and technical hurdles here, but this is an absolutely terrible idea that will drive people away from Signal in droves.
-
Johnnemann 🌹 (@johnnemann) reported
@signalapp Uhh what the actual. I have real problems already communicating with people who are on iphone, this makes it just that much worse. Please don't make me move away from signal!!

@signalapp Absolutely terrible decision. Metaverse-tier.

hayden aiken 🇺🇸🤝🏻🇺🇦 (@aikensource) reported
@signalapp Interesting that some users have problems differentiating between SMS and Signal messaging after THE USER personally set Signal as their *default* SMS app. List of UI/UX features Signal has to communicate privacy status: 1. Different colored message bubbles for signal vs. sms

LMCGaming (@LMCGaming) reported
@signalapp This is terrible.
-
The_Asshat (@asshat_the) reported
@signalapp This is a terrible call IMO. This is going to kill adoption and utilization. And for what? What’s the end goal with this decision?
-
centauri (@centauri936) reported
@bblboy54 @justinede @signalapp Maybe you can convince a few more people to give signal a shot and bring down that 90% a bit.
-
ljean (@ljean) reported
@markus_ottela @WellKnownAlias @signalapp Exactly! Usability problems will be exacerbated not addressed by this terrible user-hostile decision!
-
hayden aiken 🇺🇸🤝🏻🇺🇦 (@aikensource) reported
@postmaster_ron @signalapp It was the only basis I had for recommending it to "average" android users. Most people, in reality, care about the workflow more than issues of privacy, which they are unable to actually see and experience. I will absolutely use Signal a LOT less.
-
dragonfrog (@DragonfrogMog) reported
@signalapp I guess you're about to find out how much of the reason you're the "most widely used private messaging service on the planet" is because you allow people to just open and send without thinking about whether this particular person will get the message as Signal or SMS.
-
shinanegans (@shinanegans) reported
@signalapp I'm having a problem signing up for the app, it's saying Network request failed when trying to send the verification text. Have enabled all permissions, network signal is strong, app is up to date. Any help appreciated please?
-
Peter Haas 🤠 (@peter_haas) reported
@signalapp @mer__edith Also this is a terrible move in general. You should support the protocol it is clear in signal that SMS is not secure.
-
Phil McDuff (@PhilMcDuff) reported
@signalapp Terrible idea.

Bob K Mertz (@bblboy54) reported
@CircuitSwan @signalapp Glad to see others that supported @signalapp having the same problems with this decision. I had been on a $3 a month donation plan for nearly 2 years but that ended today. I hate to do it but I can't justify donating. I may be dedicated to privacy but those I talk to aren't.
-
Bob K Mertz (@bblboy54) reported
@justinede @signalapp I understand that but the problem is that 90% of the people I message don't use signal.... the chances that I open Signal for the other 10% is going to become very rare which actually harms privacy in another way. Signal had a more accessible barrier to entry. It no longer will.
-
The Protagonist (@Protagonist_123) reported
@signalapp What are you thinking? This is terrible. Wrong choice. Make them different colors or something. Way easier.
-
Konstantin Weddige (@KonstantWeddige) reported
@signalapp It's a terrible idea! I barely get any SMS from humans, but i can't get rid of SMS from my mobile service provider and other services. My main struggle with friends is to agree on one messenger, because nobody wants to use multiple apps.
-
hayden aiken 🇺🇸🤝🏻🇺🇦 (@aikensource) reported
@signalapp Wow, this is terrible news :( I use Signal as my default messaging app so that it's seamless to talk to people that won't or can't use Signal, mainly iMessage users on iPhone. How does this HELP goals of security and privacy?? The UI clearly indicates if it's E2EE or not.
-
maqp (@markus_ottela) reported
@ljean @WellKnownAlias @signalapp The person complaining about having to deal with one more app that they can't even remove from their phone is the problem, not the company removing features with fundamentally broken security.

Jaded Misanthrope (@SoulsOfTheFree) reported
@signalapp This sucks. This is going to cause me a great deal of trouble dealing with my non-technical friends and family. I don't see any reason to do this. I'm perfectly capable of understanding which messages are encrypted and which are not.
