This story here is virtually identical to every other case of an alleged "Signal hack": it always boils down to user error or an unsafe modification of the code (as was the case with the previous government-related "Signal hack").

  Firebase Phone Number Verification going GA matters far beyond developer convenience. In countries like #Iran, where SMS verification codes are often blocked or unreliable, SMS-less phone verification could help users register for secure apps — if adopted by apps like @signalapp.

  @zentex @signalapp All security eventually comes down to some sort of secret. Passkeys, 2FA, etc. are great because they don't require you to share secrets like passwords do. They are nearly impossible to hack. But they still require some bit of knowledge that a social engineer can get from you

  PSA: purchased a phone number for @signalapp registration at @smspoolnet but the number got re-sold to a scammer else after 3 months. that person took over the signal account. super dangerous. terrible service guarantee by smspool and dangerous auth practice by signal . basically sim swapping without the social engineering. not your phone network, not your number (you can't own a mobile number).

  ✅ @Apple has rolled out a software fix to address a flaw that stored notifications marked for deletion on the device. This vulnerability allowed the @FBI to read deleted messages in @signalapp. The update comes weeks after it was revealed that the agency managed to forensically extract copies of incoming #Signal messages from a defendant’s iPhone in connection with an attack on the Prairieland ICE detention center facility. This was possible even after the app had been deleted, by exploiting the fact that copies of message content were stored in the device’s push notification database. Signal’s developers thanked Apple for its “quick action and for understanding and acting on the stakes of this kind of issue.”

  anyone else have the issue when i get a @xai post from a @signalapp chat.. it NEVER opens the link INSIDE X but loads it up in a web browser on the iphone? frustrating!!! links for youtube work.. so why not X?

  Hi @signalapp. On iOS you ask for my recovery key as a reminder. This makes no sense to me. Either I still have it or I don't. If I don't have it anymore, your reminder will not help. What am I missing?
