@carolecadwalla @signalapp Musk is a problem that needs to be dealt with entirely separately from protecting children from material our society has decided to bar them from. Musk and his like are a separate problem we MUST deal with anyhow. Using them as an excuse to avoid helping kids is absurd

Damn, I didn’t know this!!! @signalapp Might fully move from Telegram to Signal at this point. My main issue with TG has always been the scammy bots/games and the fact msg aren’t encrypted by default unless you manually use Secret Chat. Other than that, it’s honestly a great and complete app

@LabDRN @signalapp A better way to do this is to only switch the service on for childs' phones. The parents do that when they set up the phone. No dig ID needed.

  • Ammir
    AmiR Rashidi (@Ammir) reported

Firebase Phone Number Verification going GA matters far beyond developer convenience. In countries like #Iran, where SMS verification codes are often blocked or unreliable, SMS-less phone verification could help users register for secure apps — if adopted by apps like @signalapp.

  • IamRedListed
    GG (@IamRedListed) reported

@topicswithatee @signalapp Think for a bit. Age verification? Ok, no big problem, don’t like it, but acceptable. Now… how do you think you detect unsafe content ***? Tech magic? Smartphone witch? Every byte of your mobile phone must go to some server, get unencrypted and scanned. You fine with this?

✅ @Apple has rolled out a software fix to address a flaw that stored notifications marked for deletion on the device. This vulnerability allowed the @FBI to read deleted messages in @signalapp. The update comes weeks after it was revealed that the agency managed to forensically extract copies of incoming #Signal messages from a defendant’s iPhone in connection with an attack on the Prairieland ICE detention center facility. This was possible even after the app had been deleted, by exploiting the fact that copies of message content were stored in the device’s push notification database. Signal’s developers thanked Apple for its “quick action and for understanding and acting on the stakes of this kind of issue.”

@theweb3jess @signalapp @depressivehacks Why is this Signal's problem? But what Starmer proposed is not a solution. Why don't you come up with something since you care so much. Maybe put all under 18 in a closed environment and monitor their every move, might work

@Tech_Temp_ @signalapp Surely tech people will find a way and create privacy focused content like we always did. You’re missing my point. I’m saying for everyday people and mainstream devices being scanned for the huge problem of children trafficking. I’ve reported a few cases of such on this app even.

@signalapp Idk. I’m almost always on the side of more privacy but jr this can’t help a lot of children from unimaginable horrors it doesn’t look bad to me. I would suffer any inconvenience for that.

@0xPhilH @vonderburchard @signalapp The users got hacked, not Signal. If those users' Signal accounts hadn't been phished, it's likely at some point in the near future those same users' accounts on some other service would be phished as the same vulnerable point of entry (the user themselves) remains.

@durov Thats what @signalapp also says. "Leave the market". Have they left any market? No. Zilch. Nada. Zero. When the SIM binding rules in India were made mandatory (now extended till December this year), was there any blog post? Zilch. Nada. Was there any mention from your end too? Zilch. Nada. Nyet. Realistically speaking- will it make an impact beyond "moralistic statements"? Important to note: All governments will want a bit of a control. Name calling (by a person of your stature) won't help.

@PaulSmithDM @signalapp I thought "crap parents are so terrified of" might have been a clue that I agree with you completely. The missing tone of voice makes it harder though. I regard this "ooh the kiddies" as utterly despicable. The problem now is to find a party that won't do it.

@evowizz @signalapp I think a majority of the issue with building a fully custom client is integration/feature parity with the official app(s). I do believe you could fork Signal and make some major improvements though, and just maintain it as a fork.

@anilkseth @signalapp The privacy concern is fair, but this hasn’t “broken” iMessage encryption. Your messages are still end-to-end encrypted in transit. The person receiving them could already screenshot, copy, forward or photograph them; this just makes it easier for AI to read, search and summarise their copy. That’s an endpoint privacy issue, not an encryption backdoor.
