  • thejohnjansen John Jansen (@thejohnjansen) reported from Camden Town, England

@teleject @meyerweb It kinda does though... With MSN Explorer (yes that was a thing in 2001, competing with AOL) we enabled "toast notifications" and the name was because "the little thing popped like the toast on the screensavers." Real toast never does that. It sits there. It sometimes Burns.

  • 8outof10blog 8/10 (@8outof10blog) reported from Barnet, England

@reece_dinsdale The other two are "Welcome to AOL: you're connected!" and "Goodbye...th-that's it." Damn I need to put these on my new laptop!

@NW6Rd You've just reminded me my contract is up with my absolutely appalling @SkyUK broadband. It's so slow it's like AOL dial-up

@MattWalshBlog I had been doing PC networking for businesses for years already using novell software and had been on bulletin boards, etc. A customer was laughing and yelled "you have to see this". So i went in and watched as the Aol sotware drew a picture of a woman in a bikini. it took 5min

  • reesespieceyumm V D (@reesespieceyumm) reported

@MattWalshBlog I was in 7th grade on AOL in my friends parents closet where they had their computer. It so odd to think that we all huddled in their closet now. I would never let me kids do that. Chat rooms and medical dictionaries to understand nasty language. 😳

  • samplefumble gaslight gated kick girlboss (@samplefumble) reported

this tweet is also me discovering aol changed their logo to some lame subdued font ****. perish, it will not be long before time forgets you

  • Amaris0310 Amaris (@Amaris0310) reported

@MattWalshBlog I remember waiting forever to log on to AOL and praying you didn’t get a busy signal haha

  • jwymanm ree (@jwymanm) reported

@BobQuarantine @MattWalshBlog I was hipper than you guys. I never had a centralized network provider. No Compuserve, no AOL, just raw internet from a dial up provider. First exposure, and I didn't know I was doing it, was a dialup to my sister's college to run lynx. Didn't know I was even on the net lol

  • LanceMBerland LanceMBerland (@LanceMBerland) reported

@MattWalshBlog It was slow and tedious in the beginning. Encountered the web the same way. AOL at an associate's house. Really started using it in the fall of 1998.

  • MadelineKaz Madeline Kazantzis (@MadelineKaz) reported

@MattWalshBlog We must be the same age. My dad took me down to our basement office, it was dark, screen was lit up and he said, “This is for your generation what landing on the moon was for mine. You can connect to anywhere in the world instantly using this.” Then, he proceeded to log onto AOL.

  • AaronVaiden Aaron Vaiden (@AaronVaiden) reported

@xfinity 10 calls and 6 dms. Hung up on multiple times, no reply message. Apparently customers don't matter unless you complain publicly. Worst product and worst customer service of any company ever and it isn't close. AOL dial up was better than what I am getting.

  • _Quest_ Quest (@_Quest_) reported

@sweetdeesez @acony_belle Hahaha not quite that bad. My mom never got the 69 or 420 memes. Hell, my mother just learned how to use her iPad let alone aol
