    @Meidas_Samantha I was using the social media of the time around 1980. Usenet news. Back then the Internet was created by geeks for geeks. Using it was, in itself, an intelligence test which kept the level of debate up. Then the suits found it and AOL made it easy and the tone went way down.

    @HNTurtledove Was actually on the Q-Link service which preceded AOL back in the late 80s. They shippped me a 300 baud modem to plug into the back of my Commodore 64. Spent most of the time playing trivia and chess. It was glorious

    @Chemjobber I feel somewhat insane saying this but maybe same??!? My dad got AOL super early. I was either 8 or 9. I remember obsessively checking my email daily to never have them.

    @RicksterHonaker @Suddenlink Suddenlink is sucks, better off with Aol dial up. Or some quack service company. At least you will have service. I urge suddenlink users to find something else and for those who don't know about suddenlink. Stay away from this company. Oh if you call. It's all robots you talk to

    @aolmail @AOLSupportHelp this is dumb. i keep getting scam emails saying "WelcomeToCarInsurance" or "UPS Confirmation" sent to my aol mail account which i haven't used for a very long time. and i can't even log in to my aol mail account to fix this!

    @_ToneVays______ @CameronRuggles @derose Yep - network effect is important. It's contributing to Bitcoin's value today. But network effect can change. Kodak was once the go-to company for cameras. Everyone once knew to use an AOL CD to connect to the Internet, and Alta Vista to search it. Things change.

    @CGuntur I must be getting old, as I remember all of them (I still must have an ICQ account I believe). Including dial-up BBSes. AOL was US only afaik, so as a European never used that to access the internet. We had WorldOnline or
