@version3point1 @cranium84 @driverbod125 2½ for me. I had Hotmail rather than AOL, never had MySpace and I'm saying half for owning an encyclopædia. Never owned one, but did use the library one.

@DelucaDougie @larry0x its more like the Myspace or AOL of the internet. Network effect isn't constant. You will lose that over time as better networks with better UX come along.

@billionheirb Idk I’ve been an internet speculator since AOL dial up.. 🥴 I always love what the internet has to offer.. and growing up the internet has always been a booming business/down time.. to me this blowing up was nothing new.. it was expected.. but that’s just me

@spacebtwn1013 Sisters was my gateway drug, but that was early AOL and there wasn’t the community as we knew it now. ER and fandom and its yahoo groups/LJ taught me that I wasn’t weird for wanting to expand the stories beyond 43m. But SVU wow. Never stuck with a show this long even in

It seems similar to me to the structural problems AOL, Google, Facebook, maybe Apple have had: because you are opting in to a bundle of services and network effects rather than ppv, they can attract big numbers w/ best-in-class product and then coast on momentum indefinitely

Prediction, if Eth doesn’t get it’s stuff together in 2022 we can put a fork in it. Will go down the route of AOL, Netscape Navigator. Promising in it’s day, but the newer generation tech took away market share.

@markmobility @nytimes has been hot garbage for a minute Cancelled my sub after the Tom Cotton op-Ed, (even that was a mess. Wouldn’t let me go. Hour on the phone, emails. Had to turn just cancel PayPal finally. Reminded my of quitting AOL back in the day)
