  Victor Meldrew moment! Ordered a new oven from @AOL for delivery today. Given a 7.00am until 7.00pm delivery slot. Rang now will not be delivered until next Sunday. Not informed of anything. Asked the service department about what they can do to correct it! Nothing. Cancelled.

But before I used Usenet I was banned from AOL forums. The original evil, from which sh*t sites like Facebook & Reddit are censorious de facto children. Also I caused these three groups to be created, in the day, when most anyone could create a group…

  I should have known I’d never remember to cancel free trials by the way my *** hoarded AOL free trial cds of varying hours in the days of dial up. I taught myself loopholes, not responsibility.

  @qlypai For @twigl_it I don't think of it as a wrapper around a frontier model, but I guess you could say that. In my view, all frontier models will follow the path of AOL. It's moving rapidly along the same trajectory. AOL mail, chat were all massively popular; AOL's valuation went to the moon, etc. But then dedicated tools came in, and against the single focus, AOL couldn't compete. Once SpaceX launches space-based datacenters along with Starlink, the game will be up. My bet is that the harness is where the value is at. I have really zero loyalty to a particular model; I just want the highest raw intelligence with the ability to throttle down for work that doesn't need it. It's not even clear to me what Anthropic or OpenAI think is actually going to happen. I am sure they can see from their own metrics that like 95% of users are just using it as a glorified search engine. The mass does not care at all about the companies and will use whatever is best and free (i.e., ad-supported). In the long run, Google will likely win. So a true wrapper, like simply putting the API with a bit of context, will become irrelevant to higher levels of intelligence, but I don't think the frontier models can ever win against a superior harness on a really specific proprietary data pool. I am betting that people would rather have more control over their own data, be able to better direct context, and be able to use the best-performing self-healing skills with tools with the most intelligent model that is out there.

  @HumbleWrestlng LOL Even coming from an AEW fan like you, wow, you know its bad over there lmao. becoming more and more like WCW and not in the good way. full of ex WWE people and soon an AOL type figure on the way to kick them off TV. tho Paramount is way bigger than AOL ever was. AEW is done for. :O

  @syruproxy We met on an AOL aviation message board. 🤭 We crossed paths many times as kids but never met. We met in person a few weeks after nonstop phone calls and we've never been apart. I was on furlough from the airline I flew with, and I said no when they called me back. 📟 didn't work in the countries I flew to and we were inseparable by then. 30 years ago. 🩶

  @Martyupnorth We paid for AOL for 3 months and ended up getting 18 months free. If you paid even once and then called to cancel so you could use a free trial, they just gave you another month free. Those free trials kept coming. How did they make money?
