StuT (@tenchylad) reported from Sunderland, EnglandAwful and that isn't a criticism of the kids , but more of the structure that currently exists. Not the infrastructure, as the AOL speaks for itself, but the coaching and recruitment model in places , needs a total root-and-branch reform of the way the Academy is managed. #SAFC

Hawara (@ein_hawara) reported@Noahpinion It is also pretty easy to imagine a world where a global, distributed network of open protocols that is mostly permissionsless did not happen in this way, and in which we only would have gotten a better AOL.

Tesh (@Sate34) reported@Femalegirl7 Never did VR chat. I've been in other type of chatrooms since AOL was around but not anymore.

Humble Student ⚔️ (@jaysinjailagain) reported@OddStats Nightmarish. I was lucky enough to be sent to a private school and I remember kids just not coming back the following year. They’d tell me on aol instant messenger that their families couldn’t afford it, they were moving, etc… The son of a family friend worked in tech as a twenty something in the late 90’s. I remember he was driving that BMW z3 they had in the Bond movies. Always had expensive clothes, etc…moved back in with his parents. Of course as a kid I had no idea what was going on around me but to endure that as an adult must’ve been reality warping. It explains so much of the positioning around this AI hype. Everyone who endured the dotcom has clearly vowed to never see it again.
