AOL and UUNET, the largest Internet Service Provider at the time, were both headquartered here. A lot of fiber was already in the ground and the power situation was favorable.

Same problem I have with teams and slack and zoom and teamspeak and discord and skype and AOL and mIRC. But we all do exactly that anyway because there's literally no other option.
