@Miss_Snuffy Self pity finds many friends online from the earliest days of community forums up to today's toxic social media. "Share your support" we used to say at AOL and people did and lots was valuable, but a deep streak of 'alternative truth' bedded down there too to solicit attention.

@aolmail A family member has received the most appalling customer service from #aol. Utterly shocking. All she wants to do is reset the password as she’s been locked out & the response was effectively, go away and set up another account. She has replied, but I’m not happy.

When I read the crap on here from the loyal opposition, I really want to revert to no social media, back before Myspace, even before AOL chatrooms, Netscape even. There were as many crackpots back then, but they didn't have an instant global platform. Yeah, I know...

One thing I'm worried may happen/be happening with the scramble for social media alternatives is the AOL problem: Everyone jumps onto the nearest available service, it exceeds the storage and bandwidth limits of the platform, it crashes and becomes uselessly slow and/or unstable.

@ClayDowling @scalzi And probably doing better financially than some of those print magazines.I still have it because some of my banking stuff is linked to it. But I found out the hard way that big files gasp through the AOL portal. And spam has no trouble at all moving in. I must get 50 a day.

Mastadon is stupid and segmented. Discord is chaos and impossible to use efficiently. I hate everything and suddenly I understand the Luddites and maybe we should just pretend its 1998 again. @AOL, now is your time to shine. Take back control!

Think Twitter is too big to fail? Dream on. So was AOL. So was cable TV. So was MySpace and Kodak and Blockbuster and Blackberry phones and Borders and the Music Industry and... If Twitter sucks too much, it'll sink like a stone.
