@LaymansLinguist I never used AOL but an inescapable feature was the AOL installation CD which at one stage would be in any magazine you bought or junk mail that came through the door. People started competitions to invent uses for AOL discs.

That ****** slid into my DMs over a decade ago, and I was given his AOL email, but I wasn't interested in that at all, so I'm lucky to have escaped his bullshit. *******. The women and non nonbinary people with the patience to ask for transformative justice, are kinder than I.

@timtfj We'd never had the internet before, we barely had a working computer before that. I was genuinely afraid of trying to figure out how people got on the internet without the frankly childish layout of AOL, just kind of spoonfeeding you how to get places.
