@CaseyHo On AOL, of course, people used real names a higher % of the time, but AOL was never "the internet". It was a spoke of the internet, for sure, but it was a biased, automated, viral hellscape that was designed for the older generations.

@DavidBCollum I remember in ‘95 getting my family & I kicked off AOL for cursing off the sysop in a chat room, terms of service violation. Do you think my dad called & complained about the terms of service or made me write a letter to apologize? #privatebusinesscandowhateverthefucktheywant

@AOLSupportHelp What a scam! No email support but I can pay a monthly fee to get support. Your POP3 email server is f'd up. Fix it. I can log in using the same credentials on the webpage and get may mail but I don't want to stare at your stupid ads. #AOLSucks

  • sahil_vi Sahil Sharma (@sahil_vi) reported

Similarly, why was Google able to penetrate AOL or Yahoo!‘s network effects? They simply had a better product based on Larry and Sergei’s PHD thesis : The page rank algorithm. Deep technical knowledge based moats are most difficult to disrupt.

  • txtdarizenji َ (@txtdarizenji) reported

I will support the casts from tu, woh, and aol without a doubt.

  • gabor Gabor Cselle (@gabor) reported

In this case (AOL v Zeran), AOL was found not liable even though it had been provided notice about the defamatory third-party content. This is a key difference between the US and other Western countries, where online platforms can be bullied into taking down content.

  • MassholeInGA Goin’ to California with an achin’ in my heart (@MassholeInGA) reported

@aol help desk just attempted to extort money from my sister who was only trying to her password reset.

  • RussEmerson Russ 김치 더줘 Emerson ♿ (@RussEmerson) reported

@stevensongs I'd better check if my AOL login still works.
