@cox_tom I decided to cancel my AOL subscription as it didn't work on my Mac. Did it during my work lunch hour. I held my nerve as they passed me on to many different people begging me to stay and offering me the world. 1&1/2 hrs later I succeeded. I had applause from work colleagues!

@doug_hanks @mayorbermudez @CommishDiaz Anyone still using an AOL email address should be automatically deemed too old, or too bad at using technology, for elected office

What's the most promising open social network platform these days? Diaspora, Keybase, WikiTribune... all failed. Can we force interoperability with existing networks, like Trillian used to do, against AOL's wishes? Are barriers technical or legal or economic?

@richmanab @IanColdwater I’m one of the few people of a certain age who’s never had an AOL account. But in my case, it’s because I was grandfathered into my university’s free dialup internet for about a decade. I remember when .com email addresses were still a novelty. In 1990, almost all were .edu.

@FlakPhoto @RonCowie @Twitter I'm that old - the online community that changed my life was in the early days of AOL And when I needed to know why we could never recreate that experience, I wrote a book about it. Once I answered my question, I didn't miss it - but I'm still in regular contact with those folks

It’s a damn shame the “anonymous” #WWERaw GM wasn’t active on Retro Night. Instead of using the standard iPhone new message sound and a laptop, they could have used an old Windows desktop and five minutes of the Internet dialing up, complete with “You’ve Got Mail” from @AOL.
