  • dancall Dan Calladine (@dancall) reported from Wandsworth, England

@neilperkin You'd think they could find a fix. This used to happen with all AOL accounts showing up as 'Virginia' 20 years ago!

  • Alessandro_Babs LDN Scottie Pippen (@Alessandro_Babs) reported from Brentford, England

@KwakuMMNT 112 by default. Jagged Edge were broadcasting to us using 2001 AOL dial up. Horrible signal.

  • ahwpgapro Alan Walker (@ahwpgapro) reported from Loughton, England

@aolmail I’ve been attempting to retrieve my wife’s AOL password for the past 10 or more emails with your supposed email support. Its merry go round getting nowhere. Please assist.

  • budgie Lee 'Budgie' Barnett (@budgie) reported from Richmond, England

CompuServe when I first got online in 1995, MSN Messenger, the very occasional foray into Usenet. Tried AOL, ICQ, a few others. But never enjoyed them. Had both AIM and Yahoo Meseenger But only very rarely used them.

  • thejohnjansen John Jansen (@thejohnjansen) reported from Camden Town, England

@teleject @meyerweb It kinda does though... With MSN Explorer (yes that was a thing in 2001, competing with AOL) we enabled "toast notifications" and the name was because "the little thing popped like the toast on the screensavers." Real toast never does that. It sits there. It sometimes Burns.

  • bhutch41 Brian Hutchinson (@bhutch41) reported from Lambeth, England

@AOL after weeks of “wrong password” still having major problems with AOL! Seems email & via Safari not joined up. Worrying as I’m in middle of negotiations! Help!

  • ahwpgapro Alan Walker (@ahwpgapro) reported from Loughton, England

@AOLSupportHelp We have been going around in circles and the reason I’ve tweeted my issue is I can’t get anywhere because we’ve done all the security Q’s and still 0 - I need to speak with a human being.....

  • brokenbottleboy Mic Wright 🏳️‍🌈🏴‍☠️ (@brokenbottleboy) reported from Poplar, England

When it first arrived — and I made a blog there within the first two months of its public existence — @tumblr was the near perfect blogging platform. Then AOL destroyed it. Now it’s a horrible jail where I can’t get rid of this dumb screen. Thanks @automatic.

  • bhutch41 Brian Hutchinson (@bhutch41) reported from Lambeth, England

Still having intermittent trouble sending/receiving emails on my @AOL account. Updated password on AOL via Safari; it works. Does not work through my normal email channel either sending or receiving. Systems don’t seem to share info - help!

  • bhutch41 Brian Hutchinson (@bhutch41) reported from Lambeth, England

I’ve been with AOL all my internet life. Just recently it keeps telling me my password is wrong; I put the same password in again & it’s alright for a while. Today emails appear then suddenly vanish, is @AOL trying to dismiss me. Help!

  • bhutch41 Brian Hutchinson (@bhutch41) reported from Lambeth, England

Although I have re-installed @AOLSupportHelp on iPhone I am still receiving “wrong password” messages. Puzzling that all’s well on iPad & laptop! Help!!!

  • bhutch41 Brian Hutchinson (@bhutch41) reported from Lambeth, England

@AOLSupportHelp Did send it but still having same problem!

  • bhutch41 Brian Hutchinson (@bhutch41) reported from Lambeth, England

@AOLSupportHelp Hi Guys, password prompt now so frequent; every time I open my AOL email account. Please ask your engineers to fix quickly. Thanks so much.

  • dougmortonagain Doug (@dougmortonagain) reported from Ealing, England

The first PlayStation came out, and Macs transitioned to Power PC. AOL is launched. Amazon was founded. Microsoft announces it will no longer sell or support the MS-DOS operating system separately from Microsoft Windows

  • xSarahSolomon Sarah Solomon (@xSarahSolomon) reported from Camberwell, England

AGREED! Every kid except me had nice shiny internet...we were stuck with that shitty AOL dialup that we were only allowed to use to play Cartoon Network games on if we were good 🥴

  • lorrainemking Lorraine King (@lorrainemking) reported from Brentford, England

@NW6Rd You've just reminded me my contract is up with my absolutely appalling @SkyUK broadband. It's so slow it's like AOL dial-up

AOL Issues Reports

Latest outage, problems and issue reports in social media:

  • wanyinbot Jiang Cheng (@wanyinbot) reported

Jin Ling. Come help me guess Wei Wuxian's AOL password

  • randomanalyst Random Analyst (@randomanalyst) reported

@BrianFeroldi More like comparing aol to google (pre ipo, early days). Winner in TaaS either doesn't exist yet or is in early days. Fundamental change in way one thinks about the problem required.

  • KevlarCondom Adam~KevlarCondom™ (@KevlarCondom) reported

@THEJATMN @joeltelling I'll see if I can get legislation started to a one ad per 22min internet system. Had an idea back in 1994 when I did some work for AOL. It's actually amazing how many sites now host ads themselves, instead of using cdns, just because of the slow performance, and lack of income.

  • OPFbluesky oli freuler.eth (@OPFbluesky) reported

@manwnomelanin @bourbonni @PrestonPysh Not sure if you were there at 2000. At first, it looked like platforms like myspace, msn, aol or yahoo were winning. They were very dominant and the share prices were strong. google, facebook and youtube have broken this initial dominance with lasting effect.

  • BigPapaAle Alestrom (@BigPapaAle) reported

@JeanBCurcio more like trashmetrics. Imagine forcing someone into a phone call (don't worry they aren't a salesperson) to cancel. This reeks of the old AOL strategem where you'd call to cancel (cause you had to) and they'd offer you 6 free months every time. Customer retention lmao

  • nickolasrossi nickolas rossi (@nickolasrossi) reported

@OptimumHelp any reports of massive service disruptions in Brooklyn tonight because I had more consistent uninterrupted service from a dial up AOL 1000+ hours disc I found in a coffee shop circa 2002 than I do with the service I pay you for.

  • namehra Neville A Mehra - Nomad and Strategy Guy (@namehra) reported

@cmdkhalilov @Baremetrics This was actually a common "business model" in the early days of tech. Make it easy to sign up and nearly impossible to cancel. AOL was the famous example back in the day. To cancel you had to call, wait on hold forever, and then the CSR would try to talk you out of it...

  • knitvspurl ✡️ MG ✡️ #VoteBlueInGA #GiveBidenASenateMajority (@knitvspurl) reported

@TimothyEaston33 @GrahamAllen_1 @SpeakerPelosi That doesn't make him less of a TROLL, boo-boo. Trollbot, as in someone who reflexively posts ******* comments just to stir up trouble. The internet has been full of them since AOL chat rooms in the 1990's.

  • danreilly11 Dan Reilly (@danreilly11) reported

@lfitzmaurice @NickfromIslands I was interviewing Clive Davis once at a venue and a button popped off his suit. The majority of the staff of AOL Music was there, as was my wife, watching as he and I all of a sudden were down under a table searching for it. Must've looked pretty weird.

  • BRogersRE Barbara Ann Rogers (@BRogersRE) reported

@nickrizzo She’s “technically challenged.” She isn’t on any social media at all and her email address ends in aol. She’s been a DL here for about 30 years and never had to do anything until we started making life uncomfortable for her a few years ago. 1/2
