The peak of online banter had to have been some time in the early 2010s when everyone was on mIRC and not cringe/gay chat clients like AoL/Skype and nobody cared about their IP/ID/etc because nobody had any real attachment to the shit they did online

  • NYCJellybean New York Jellybean 🇺🇸 (@NYCJellybean) reported

@jnthnwll Shit it seems like just yesterday. 25 cents to send texts to Canada. My son had a Canadian friend and the first time we got the bill, my ex flipped at the amount. Can’t recall how much but suffice it to say, they were forced to IM on AOL!!!

  • nxtradioug Nxt Radio (@nxtradioug) reported

It also inspired me to call someone a ****** in an AOL Kids chat room, which resulted in an immediate ban. And then I had to explain to my dad 1. What a ****** is, and 2. Where I learned that word. Because it was his AOL master account, so they emailed him about the incident.

Sometimes I get frustrated by the slow wifi. Then I remember I’m on an airplane 38k feet above the Atlantic ocean. 20 years ago I was using CDs to fire up AOL and screaming at my parents when they used the landline while I was scrolling through chat rooms. What a world.

  • SalutAmie Amie (@SalutAmie) reported

What if all these terrible things are happening because I didn’t respond to that chain letter in the early days of AOL!

  • NateInSports Nate Bryan (@NateInSports) reported

Time for me to call Lloyd just to break up the dial up. But I'm a jerk like that. Hope they saved up their AOL minutes. Also, try connecting to the official Lloyd site on GeoCities using Netscape Navigator. If that doesn't work, send me a ICQ message

  • Regine203 Gigi (@Regine203) reported

They will never experience getting yelled at for being logged onto AOL when your parents needed the phone lol.
