@RoKhanna I worked at Time Warner when bought by AOL. TW employees got stock in AOL Time Warner. When tech bubble burst AOL TW rose. Analysts touted brilliance — until it lost 95% of its value. S. Case and R. Parsons et al. made fortune. Rest of us got screwed. Time Inc. never recovered.

@agraybee i have been aware of magic internet money for a very long time and i have not seen any use case that other stuff couldn't do better, AOL could have been better but it provided a service that people liked and some people have nostalgia for

@BrainOrigami @paulkrugman It looks stupid with 20/20 hindsight, but in 1998 ~half of all homes w/internet access were using AOL to get it and we were 9 years away from the first iPhone.
