  • tom_streeter Tom Streeter (@tom_streeter) reported from Burlington, Kentucky

@CincinnatiPhil If it was in the alt.* hierarchy it was a real crapshoot, but this was before “Eternal September’ (when AOL went on the Internet) so it exceeded FBook on its worst day. Tim Berniers-Lee & Marc Anderson both made their initial announcements on Usenet.

  • Einthe513 E ✌🏽 (@Einthe513) reported from Cincinnati, Ohio

@instagram just released the absolute worst feature. No one wants to see you NOTES. Is this 2004 aol?

  • Mstaats13 Mike (@Mstaats13) reported from Fort Wright, Kentucky

@AllanNate @calebfurst @HoodieCarsen Damn that’s actually pretty funny, I totally forgot about that site. I remember reading it back in the AOL days lol

  • ScottEvansOnAir Scott Evans (@ScottEvansOnAir) reported from Elsmere, Kentucky

@LambertJan42 @EBischoff They beat Raw for more than 100 weeks total. WCW didn’t go bankrupt. It was sold effectively for that amount to WWE because AOL-TW decided to end TV for wrestling killing its value. There was some bad TV in 99-01 but no matter what AOL was ending it.

  • peanuttom Tom Hagins (@peanuttom) reported from Newport, Kentucky

@AOL Talented but stupid. He'll be lucky to get one year deals

Thoughts on returning to AOL Instant Messenger? I could also probably dig up my LiveJournal login info so let's just take it back to the early aughts, eh?

  • danielrbrookes Daniel Brookes (@danielrbrookes) reported

@AOL please help, my account has been hacked. I’ve called you but you won’t help as I’m in the U.K.

  • thotty_tt t ♡ (@thotty_tt) reported

@butterobama I use an aol email as a spam for stores n stuff and I gave it to a young cashier at aerie and asked me how to SPELL AOL 😭😭😭 I damn near fainted

  • PhillyPartTwo Michael MPH 🇺🇸 ✌🏼 (@PhillyPartTwo) reported from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

@AOLmail @AOL EMAILS. FROM. GOOGLE. ARE. NOT. SPAM. Your spam controls continue to be terrible and you are a horrifically bad business platform.

  • WendyJuan Wendy Juan (@WendyJuan) reported

@danielrbrookes @fbsecurity Yes… aol never shut down just updated passwords and removed access

  • King_Darian Chris Warriner (@King_Darian) reported

when twitter shuts down you can find me on AOL Instant Messenger under the screen name xX_GaMeOfLoVeFeAtMiChElLeBrAnChFaN2_Xx

  • mmemordant Ems (@mmemordant) reported

Honestly, the vibe in here is very "AOL shutting down its artsy message boards for tweens, everybody sneak your email address into your goodbye post so we can trick the mods" and I'm feeling it tbh

  • geodanny Dan 🌻 (@geodanny) reported

@CubicleApril Tough call between AOL/TW and Musk buying Twitter. Yahoo's worst deals may have been the back-to-back purchases of GeoCities and Broadcast. $9+ billion for services effectively killed off within a few months, but I don't think it's as destructive as Musk's folly

  • d_feldman Daniel Feldman (@d_feldman) reported

@CubicleApril I think AOL will still go down as the worst for destroying TWO successful businesses in one merger at the least opportune time ever. But Twitter is looking pretty bad.

  • johnayersc johnayersc (@johnayersc) reported

@TheStalwart As a business guy at AOL this was my view and frustration when presented with long dev lead times, I never understood it until someone wisely told me “nine women can’t have a baby in a month”
