Ann Arbor for Secretary Pete (@AnnArborForPete) reported@TheStefanSmith So many of those AOL CD-roms went out. We used them as coasters. We put them in the microwave to see what would happen. Never did sign up for AOL.

JessL3D (@JessL3d) reported@hackaday I was on BBS's using an Amiga 1000 and then accessed Genie until I bought a Epson "Multimedia" system. AOL had an internet menu item back in 1993 which got me hooked. I accessed the Detroit Greener and then got Netcom for Internet access and never looked back

They are one of the few stations that still say up and down the dial with saying the other station’s name as if we so stupid we don’t know other’s exist

One of the names was "diIdo1979" with the second "i" capitalized so it looked like an L, and well let's just say my mom was none too pleased to discover said notepad!

At the beginning, I knew most of the answers but was so slow with my two index fingers. Eventually got better at it just because I wanted to win trivia rounds.

I will never forget being laughed at by a table of doctors (my gf at the time was an anesthesiologist) for still having one (along with a flip phone) and it pissed me off.

I am old enough to remember Netscape Navigator, AOL Explorer etc...Where are they now? Opensea will crumble like those early giants
