These kids today will never understand what it feels like to be excited to download your music from Limewire, all to hear “AOL Music” or “Black and beats vibe baby” before each song — you didn’t care cause it was free and still blasted on repeat!

After much mediation and soul searching, I figured out what my New Years resolution for online stuff is... get better at replying to messages on Twitter, Instagram and Discord. I have not seen so many messages not replied to since I checked my AOL in 10th grade...7k email!

I have my phone set to play the AOL "You've got mail!" sound whenever I get an email. I've never used AOL. I just think it's a useful sound that differentiates it from other notices, nobody else uses it anymore, and it always makes people look at me funny.

@AnarkYouTube So many of these problems are technical, not ideological. Bookchin got us close but was like 80 when AOL came out. They've been answered by people who don't call themselves anarchists. Jacque Fresco, Peter Joseph, Jeremy Rifkin. Be emergent, not confined to the ideological lane.

Listening to my boomer parents in the next room on a long tech support call trying to find out why AOL is charging them $30/mo for their decades-old email account. Painful to realize how many other older adults who haven’t switched to gmail bc habits are also getting scammed.

@Utwitily If I wanted internet at home, I had to sign up for AOL’s free trial, and cancel it later, myself. My parents didn’t want internet badly enough to do it themselves.

@winamp Ok, I'll admit it takes some merit to damage the Winamp brand more than AOL did.

@TheAcroTV It reminds me of the old days when aol dial up was the height of technology. Then I realized how terrible aols software was and did everything I could to avoid it. Yeah, good times.
