  @HagneSanti @brother_Buddha @MarcelleX It has some history from the AoL not in the books. Is more a culture read. Less encyclopedia. Also, disappointing art. Artist got rushed by contract changes. So I feel bad for them, but still don't like the character art.

  Gather round children, let me tell you of the Netscape Navigator In the Year of our Lord Early-1990s, one could access Bulletin Board Systems (BBS) -- essentially, a highly-selective Reddit -- BY PHONE, not the internet. You also played your friends in Warcraft 2 by phone. If you had email it likely came through a university "Walled Gardens" were built out at AOL and Prodigy to facilitate user-friendly graphical interactions over the most of the 'net you were gonna get your hands on. But then... Netscape. FREE YOUR MIND was stamped all over the thing. You could do what you wanted, when you wanted it. You could guess the full URL for the admin login portal for major companies, then go to the human-legible cookie file on your machine and change the access granted value to true! When you opened someone's computer and they didn't have Netscape, your Promethean introduction of technological fire established your reputation as a true wizard and hacker We exchanged the latest search engines: WebCrawler, AltaVista, Dogpile. Jerry's Guide, even. Real wizard-tier esoterica. College students had access to unlimited bandwidth. A normal chump at home was sitting on 1-3% of 1 Mbps, or maybe 1/8 of 1 Mbps if he was a high roller with an ISDN line. But college students had T1s (1.5 Mbps) or even T3s (45 Mbps for a whole school, maybe even just a dorm). With all those sweet sweet kbps, you hit up mIRC and your beautifully personal Geocities page. You used Winamp and Winzip. You had ASCII text art in your sig. Later in the 90s, you burned mix CDs for friends with Nero's Burning ROM and downloaded wallpapers from Digital Blasphemy. You had Juno mail, then Hotmail and Yahoo, to FREE YOUR MIND and take your email with you wherever you wanted to go. And at the heart of all this: Netscape Navigator, a.k.a Excalibur, a.k.a. Eternally-On-Evaluation, a.k.a. the 3rd-best piece of freedom I experienced after exploring our drainage ditches and getting my own bike It was truly special.   @MeganTStevenson not to mention AOL Mail! My 91 year-old uncle was on AOL mail until he died. My guess is that he was a representative customer.

  @whymyPPhurt6969 @PanthersGamer @GhillieYT They will never "pull the license" if u don't break TOS. Even if they cease to exist. U'd still have access. Just like AOL email still exists even though they don't. They just leave your username open. Breaking TOS is what "revocable license" is all about not just when they want.

  Crypto has hit a local maxima, like the internet did in 1998. How you monetize currently in crypto is to clip trading volume. The users doing volume are traders. so everything ships for traders, perps, options, CEXes, dexes, launchpads, etc... Build for traders and you get instant traction. build for anyone else and you get crickets, so the traction data says traders are the only market, and the capital follows the traction data. in 1998 every serious internet company was a portal. Yahoo, Excite, Lycos, AOL, Infoseek. the metric was traffic. Everything was built to keep the user on the page, because the user on the page was the business. Search was actively deprioritized. A good search engine sends the user away, which is negative stickiness, which made search a bad product. In 1999 Excite passed on buying Google for under a million dollars. In 2000 Yahoo hired Google to power its own search results, because search was a cost center you outsourced. We are in the portal era of crypto. The Google of crypto will not show immediate traction. Google didn't. It sent users away, made no money, and looked like a toy to every smart person grading it on 1998's metric. If you want immediate traction, the market has plenty for you. Go find the next pump fun. The next Aster. The next shiny thing traders rotate into for three weeks. The next big thing requires conviction about what crypto is for, not what does volume in the next 30 days.

  How do all these people have 10s of thousands of "followers"? People that don't necessarily post anything new or just re-posts of other peoples' thoughts & work. I don't get it. I've been a member for a while now (w/ THIS acct - my orig was cancelled by Twitter during COVID for telling the factual scientific truth about masks based on my years in Bio-Nanotechnology). Is it strictly from those "Follow" train lists? I learned early on to stay away from those - I check out EVERYBODY I ever follow first & personally (not necessarily relying upon Grok's "Profile Summary", although those may get me interested to take a gander). I try to engage those who engage with me and avoid silly flame-wars. I don't post to GET followers, I generally post current stream-of-consciousness thoughts, what's on my mind at that moment & not really organizing them into proper English "articles". Plus I'm not really good at pithy comments - I speak from my heart & soul and EXPLAIN myself & my reasoning for coming to different conclusions. And I typically don't engage in irrational, emotional hyperbole & name-calling. I truly want to know what others think and LEARN (you're never too old to learn!). For DECADES on BBSes (Bulletin Board Systems - pre-graphical internet days, modem-connected social systems for discussion, research & debates), the Usenets (newsgroups, pre-graphical/HTTP/HTML internet days when time on the internet was purchased through 3rd party vendors like CompuServe by the hour - 70s & 80s, pre-AOL (which is slightly pre-HTTP/HTML/Mozilla-Netscape graphical internet revolution) - where everything was command-line driven in ASCII, EBCDIC, ISO set or ATASCII or the like). Am I just too old, boring, long-winded, obnoxious, opinionated or what? I know its annoying with me posting about my health, but I've gotta vent SOMEWHERE and NO ONE on X knows me personally. Not that it matters so much now, I'm heading down the stretch-run to Home plate, but even paying for Elon's blue-checkmark, I don't get many hits/views or responses/engagement, it is pretty comparable to my "free" account that I use solely for sports-related stuff where I have 1 whole "follower", which is probably one of those online ho-bags. It's not that I'm looking to "earn" from X and I'll NEVER post things just for click-bait value. I'm just really curious how these other accounts accrue so many followers for literally not doing much,
