Companies dragging their feet on deplatforming bigoted harassment is deja vu. I worked at AOL when they were slow to act on child porn trading. It took @crimmins testifying to Congress about their negligence to get them to act. Let me tell you what that was like.

Remember pre-Napster, AOL music sharing chatrooms where you'd ask mods for their song list & you could request WAV files? They'd send🎵 & on AOL you could actually pause downloads. It ruled! BUT…Napster was 100x better AND…MyTunes on a college network was 10k better > Napster

@shidonichan There was a site that tried to build a huge, curated, structured directory to the web; you'd apply to be listed on the right page... And tons of awful sites linking to each other in these big chains; webrings? AOL was going to be eaten by Zero-(?); shareware, nero, napster...

We've been having some site/network issues all day. I think our AOL CD-ROM is scratched.

@MollyJongFast No. I don’t remember AOL. I like the necessity to try an think before tweeting, edit, spell check and THEN punch go. It’s more than most people do with their pie holes currently. Mistakes are human. Stupid kills.

@shidonichan AOL dial up service. AOL would send the disks in the mail. Also dial up would knock out the house phone line. Woo Wee that was 1991.
