@jrhuddles @verge Every time a boomer asks if I want my online history held against me, they are likely talking about stupid things I probably said, but I think back to my Geocities FF7 fansite (lots of copyright infringement, I'm sure) and being accused of god-moding in an AOL Marvel Sim chat.

Glad the internet & social media weren't an integral part of my tween/teen years. Wonder exactly how negatively (or positively?) it's impacted zoom*rs. The worst it did to me was that I thought I was dating a member of Blink 182 in an AOL chat room. He IMed me from the tour bus.

  • drew_moss Drew Moss (@drew_moss) reported

@edbrisson Yeah I had a promo ending too. Now my bill is a third of what it was. I was expecting the worse. I remember trying to cancel AOL in the 90s. The rep said “why don’t you want internet?!!! Everyone wants internet!!!”

  • DavidJa88692244 David Jackson (@DavidJa88692244) reported

@SaveTheJohnDoe @tutenhamoun @benshapiro Lol, no one "narrow minded" because dont want to pay for a service that no longer meets their needs. Or, are you still paying $29.95 per month for AOL dial up Internet service?

  • SetPixels Correcting the Record with Guillotines ☭ (@SetPixels) reported

@MichaelTanuvasa @PAWGsForBernie I’ve never in my life used that word like she has, & I learned in grade school (in the early 80s) it was not okay to say & the cultural significance of it. I’ve never said it online even anonymously in any form on any platform dating back to BBS & AOL & ICQ.

  • bakeanddestroy 𝙽𝚊𝚝𝚊𝚕𝚒𝚎 𝚇Ⓥ𝚇 (@bakeanddestroy) reported

Why are the really mean and nasty customer emails always from AOL addresses?

  • aubsauce27 aubsauce (@aubsauce27) reported

@MatthewK86E @AOLSupportHelp Send a private message & they tell you to do what you’ve already done. Fix the damn problem on ur end

  • _jess_buchanan_ Jessica Bee (@_jess_buchanan_) reported

@TheRippedBodice My husband and I met in an AOL chat room back in the days of dial-up. He PMed me, we talked, I got kicked off. By the time I was back, he was gone!! But he wrote me an email saying “I never do this, but there’s something about you. Here’s my #, call me if you want.” >

@davidgerard @Frances_Coppola "Compuserve is bad enough, but this AOL thing is laughable. Look at all the resources they are wasting mailing out floppy disks that just go into the trash!"
