@katiedimartin I briefly worked AOL tech support as a teenager, and realizing that I had to adjust my explanations depending on the audience was an incredibly valuable lesson in my software development career AND life in general.

  • DrJohnFrancis Dr. Francis 🇺🇲🌻🇺🇦☮️ (@DrJohnFrancis) reported

@kurteichenwald @BeSeriousUSA You should have seen the tons of crap I used to have to manage with AOL TOS

@statelayer “Man the merge was crazy - people realized what PoS actually was only after bad actors exploited it, TXs clogged, and false idols pumped their bags fixing the wrong problem to please (m)eth heads. But it was awesome! We finally realized the AOL of blockchain! LOL”

@AdamB1438 AOL its early days tried to impose a porn filter on its forums. In one fell swoop it decimated the major online breast cancer support groups of the day. IMHO, that’s not a sign of a reasonable policy, but of idiocy and fear pushing a company to harmful extremes of incompetence.

  • h_posner Henry Posner (@h_posner) reported

Got a shoutout via Live Chat from a customer now in Hawaii who remembered me from decades (!) ago when I frequented Prodigy, CompuServe and AOL photo forums and Usenet newsgroups.

  • GenXtremist GenXtremist (@GenXtremist) reported

@CdnResistance Are they actively censoring **** now? I mean, it worked our really well for AOL chat.

@TheMoonCarl *Yawn* What problems in this world is ETH actually solving?….. BTC & ETH are the next Netscape and AOL. Just distractions for the actual utility market that’s about to commence.

@daybreakdisdain I grew up poor so the technology I mentioned didn't totally reflect the timeline lol. I started using the computer at 12 and it was a rebuilt pile my weird uncle put together and we had to keep using AOL free trial disks lol BUT STILL ITS A THING!

  • TheTimeProphet1 The Time Prophet (@TheTimeProphet1) reported

@BrightestDayACX I never joined an AOL chatroom. I do remember BBS and IRC though. Although IRC is still going strong now.

@BasimHassoun @eevblog 8.1 is usable enough (came with PC; never changed it). It's OK with a few tweaks, so I don't have to use the "AOL Kids" tile interface. The day it becomes unusable, I'll drop Windows altogether.
