@megansarahj I had AOL right at the end, but luckily I got out before the damage could move at speeds beyond that of my 14.4K dial-up modem that hogged our only phone line.

@liturgicalgay 4 points. Never had AOL or MySpace accounts, never used dialup to access the Internet, and I never owned an encyclopedia. (I used dialup, but to access the older Usenet, not Internet. My parents owned the encyclopedia, not I.)

@AnandWrites I’ve had a few “great job-bad company” scenarios in my life. In the 70’s I worked in the defense industry while a dove (still feel bad about that) and at the turn of the millennium I worked for AOL. I got through it.

@AOL It's scary to imagine how much more damage he can do before he leaves office.

@uTobian Back then we only had Yahoo, Hotmail & AOL emails. They were a little slow compared to Gmail. So many people jumped to Gmail

@greta What is incredibly ironic is that users are what make up a social network. Absent the users, they've got a bunch of useless code. Remember MySpace? AOL: You've Got Mail? Netscape Navigator? Hotmail? Lycos? I grew up at the perfect time to see them all come and go. It can happen.

@SaltyCracker9 Dude for a while now I've noticed them cutting or dragging your chat feeds down when things got too spicy for the progressive babies secretly modding the chat. The same kinda **** that destroyed AOL chats and the site as a result.

But of course the worst part is the affront of seeing AOL-addressed emails every day when I, like a good Millennial, have not known the password to any AOL account since 2005
