DJ CAELID (@SpaceBooda) reportedI had like a hundred of those free hour discs from all my neighbors and had free AOL for like two years. I was able to put a space in my name somehow, Spectrum NLK, and people assumed I was a master hacker genius lmao. I never corrected them.

random user (@GideonEightySix) reported@GergelyOrosz @Meta fails to understand one simple thing. It loses public support, its major site will be replaced by another facebook. Look at MySpace, AOL, and the other giants... all of them faced backlash and it ended their empire quickly.

Weissening Blitz (@WeisseningBlitz) reportedMore random memory lane thinking. So, 13yo me on AOL found an RP group populated by a bunch of 25+yo women. You might think giggity, but weirdly, there were times where I was just hearing them out when they had some bad days. Was even one I phone chatted with.

Qiang Bai (@qiangthesuper) reportedAOL was the first time I realized that a business could systematically exploit human weakness and make money by misleading customers. At the time, I was still a student. Out of curiosity, I subscribed to AOL. In reality, I already had access to the internet through a PPP modem, so I didn’t need AOL at all. But they offered a “first month free” promotion, and during registration, I had to provide my bank account details. I completely forgot about it. I never used the service, since I continued using my own internet connection. A few months later, I accidentally discovered that I had been charged $9.95 every month. As a student, that was not a trivial amount. I contacted AOL customer service. They didn’t argue or explain — they immediately terminated the service. Which, to me, showed they knew exactly what they were doing — and that this was not an isolated case.

Hathor 🧘🏾♀️🧚🏾♂️🙇🏾♀️ (@btweet2all) reported@Masterji_UPWale @SKefason I have an AOL address that became a part of yahoo. Never been asked for extra storage

NJ Bagpiper (@NJ_Bagpiper) reported@wakeupnj Not new sadly. They were using MySpace and AOL back then. Cities didn’t want to acknowledge they had a gang problem so they allowed them to grow.
-
Gary Basnett (@GaryBasnett) reported@FIREDUpWealth Daimler + Chrysler was one of the worst. Germans lied about the merger and they raided Chrysler's coffers for worthless projects while they let the Chrysler brands fall apart. AOL + Time Warner made so much sense at the time, but the management teams did not work together.

Gilly G (@glg70) reported@Utilitywaremal still waiting in a call more than 2 week later on a dispute on pricing since you took over TalkTalk, absolutely abysmal service, overpriced & clearly don’t care about customers, was with aol/talktalk for 24 years with rarely an issue!

Gerald Thompkins (@notaracistbigot) reported@BrandonTheHeel the AOL kids used to get bullied so bad back in the day easiest to bluescreen easiest to netbus always getting trolled (hold down Alt and press F4 for free stuff!!) but AIM was way better than MSN and ICQ. Ya got us there...
