@RespectfulMemes I still use the ID I panic-picked on the day (in 1992) my dad signed up for AOL and said "what username do you want". I was 11, and he'd never subscribed to a service where an account could have more than one user. We'd always shared an account - *lots* of chatroom confusion.

  • gymnol 𝑔𝓎𝓂𝓃𝑜𝓁 (@gymnol) reported

just so you guys know, unlike what AOL said - I never "got" mail

  • maloftis1 michael loftis (@maloftis1) reported from Dublin, Ohio

@redphase @Techmeme AOL did this back then, and I believe got in trouble with the SEC after the fact. (Hazy on that) But now it’s ok bc the SEC is feckless

  • MarkADellaPenna Mark DellaPenna Jr. (@MarkADellaPenna) reported from Salem, Massachusetts

without being aware. I’ll never forget walking home from school one day, which I usually got A’s & B’s but didn’t feel challenged or motivated to be into it enough, when someone on a street corner of the subway handed me a floppy disk of AOL 1.0.

  • joyceanfb jfb (@joyceanfb) reported

i remember erping way too young on aol and someone was like i like water sports and i said oh cool our characters can **** on a jet ski maybe and i didn’t know why she blocked me immediately after

@DandyDemonVT Omfg this would be the worst redeem ever I have an AOL disc over here somewhere

  • gymnol 𝑔𝓎𝓂𝓃𝑜𝓁 (@gymnol) reported

just so you guys know, unlike what AOL said - I never "got" mail and tbh it's highly offensive that they'd even suggest such a thing

@FwooshVeeBee Aw, thanks! I hope you have fun with AoL too. Yeah, knowing all about points & exp was, uh, not ingrained in me back then at all. It was still difficult but I found it fun-difficult. Used some rewind & save states at the very end though: maybe just to help with my nerves XD

  • 2PGlyrics two-player game bot (@2PGlyrics) reported

I don't even remember whose parents had the internet when I was a teen, although I'd trade chores with my aunt for an hour on AOL in a teen chat room when I was 13 we never had the internet so I had to use the library computer for my X Files message boards senior year
