  • graubart Barry Graubart (@graubart) reported from Manhattan, New York

@dancow In the 90s I had an AOL account so I could test our software on their proprietary browser. Couldn’t cancel online. Had to call in (but long wait on hold). Instead, I switched to cheapest (4.95) plan until credit card finally expired.

  • seriouslyamberr Alynn (@seriouslyamberr) reported from Manhattan, New York

    **** aol mail

  • Daniel_Guiney Daniel (@Daniel_Guiney) reported from Valhalla, New York

If you guess your aol password incorrectly three times it locks you out for 12 hours. No customer service override. This is not how you provide customer satisfaction an why I moved to Gmail 😂

  • artcrimeprof Erin L. Thompson (@artcrimeprof) reported from Manhattan, New York

On #CovidCampus: a family friend in his late 60’s just emailed me from his AOL account, subject line “Hello this is [his name],” to ask if I could come over to help him figure out Zoom for the class he’s adjuncting at a major university, so, yeah, this isn’t going to go smoothly.

I owe it to AOL and SNL for educating me when I was still single digits of age. But TWA’s crash shook the **** out of me because I was visiting Florida like once a year, so I was anxious every time I got back on a plane.

  • eddiemac3356 Ed McCabe (@eddiemac3356) reported from Manhattan, New York

@Pivotal_Capital This is like buying $AOL every time the stock went down due to a service outage. Guaranteed money maker. Buy the virus (or whatever it is). Lol

  • Helen_Highly HelenHighly (@Helen_Highly) reported from Manhattan, New York

@doctorwhoviana @crosa1988 But they loved the infomercial I had written (which never aired). They thought I “understood them.” So they hired me to do all sorts of other stuff. They essentially paid for my 1st condo. Those were the days. But then AOL made a tragically wrong turn. Interesting how that goes.

  • illrecognizeill IG:@illrecognizeill (@illrecognizeill) reported from Bronx, New York

Bronx girls on Instagram be thinking this **** is AOL in 1998 with screen names like BxJeterGrl1086.

AOL Issues Reports

Latest outage, problems and issue reports in social media:

  • tahdigh Tahdigh (@tahdigh) reported

@BillyM2k you ever use AOL back in the day? If you broke their Terms of Service (TOS) you were booted off (kind of like a time out) and given a warning. 3 violations your account got terminated. Suspension doesn’t have to be permanent. And why no monetary penalty for breaking the rules?

  • pchoate61 Paul Choate (@pchoate61) reported

2005: Rupert Murdoch paid $580m for Myspace. 2009: he sold it in $35m. 2008: Bebo was sold for $850m, to AOL. The founders later bought it back for $1m. It was regarded as one of the worst deals ever made in the dot-com era. More…

  • DennisKlemenz Dennis Klemenz (@DennisKlemenz) reported

@JenMsft Legends of Kesmai on AOL. LoK was an online RPG in 90s that EA purchased rights to. The last night of online play was a huge farewell party. Played all night, watched the sun come up, at 6 AM EST, LoK was shut down for good. In an instant, I lost 100+ friends and years of gaming.

  • msheedy81 Mike Sheedy (@msheedy81) reported

AOL's left leaning surfaces continually. Such bias makes their information worthless. Everyone knows Schiff has a real problem with the truth.

  • indo_crypt Phaedra (@indo_crypt) reported

@CAMallory2 Yes, was on aol too, long before the 1st bar. My first modem was something like 400 baud which meant it could theoretically transfer about 50 bytes a second though never came close to that :-)

@JJNICELY @bimsalabem @elonmusk lol, the old AOL customer service response: "You only get those emails because you were in a naughty chat room".

  • MiniWh00p Myland (@MiniWh00p) reported

@aztekman @cspanwj There were all kinds of social media back then too. Recall the chat rooms on AOL and such. I never met a contractor who had so much time to waste during the day. So, I must assume the gov't contracts you work on are undemanding and gov't waste.

  • silinkion1 Nicole esq👑 (@silinkion1) reported

I’m in it because at this point, it would be like refusing to use #email in 1999 convinced “internet will fail” Yea, most of the early on companies did fail, plenty of marketing/technology promotions backfired, but somehow millions are still using aol on a daily basis

  • SergioVengeance Sergio Vengeance 🇺🇲🎮🤘 (@SergioVengeance) reported

AOL - Section 230 "Lawsuits seeking to hold a service liable for its exercise of a publisher's traditional editorial functions – such as deciding whether to publish, withdraw, postpone or alter content – are barred"
